My awesome Christmas gifts.

I am editing the 'used' pedicure set to regifted set. I didn't proof read.
*********************************************************************************

I haven't posted a blog in a long time. Skids, while still driving me insane at times, really don't stay with us much.

I also noticed that I have been a member for 8.5 years here at ST.

So, quick back story. I've been with DSO 12.5 years. In 2010, CPS took skids from BM and they moved in with us. For a long list of reason, both SS' were back with BM and promptly in juvie by 2012. SD was still with us until this past summer. I pretty much was the Mother for SD from ages 9 to 16. There would be long stretches of time where SD refused to visit BM because they fought so much. SD would go to BMs more in the summer, but after last summer, she didn't return back to our house. DSO isn't the type to force his kids to do anything and it was nice to have no kid time again. My kids are adults and haven't lived with me since 2008.

Xmas gifts:

DSO - I took a picture of the perfume I wanted, told him the exact spot it was in at Walmart (yeah, I'm pretty low maintenance) and reminded him that I looove mens heavy wool socks. Got both of those things.
OSS and his GF. OSS is 24, Gf is 45, BMs age. Even DSO calls her the Suga Momma. They got me a travel mug. Since I don't drink coffee, the mug is now in DSOs stock of travel mugs he uses every day.
YSS18, just turned 18 3 weeks ago. Doesn't work, is almost out of high school and has many social issues. He got me a religious earring/necklace set. Same thing he got me last year. I'm not religious in the least and I rarely wear jewelry. I have a metal allergy and the $7 set isn't a 'good' metal to wear. DSO took him to buy his gifts so IDK why he didn't point him in another direction.
SD16. The one that should know me the best. SD quit her job in October, so DSO gave her $50 to buy gifts for her family. I got a regifted pedicure set and a 1 pack of foot soak, written in japanese, I gave those to my DD and GDD. I also got a bag of sour gummy worms. I do not eat any type of gummy, licorice types of candy.

At least I gave DSO explicit instructions of what to buy or I would've had nothing that I could use.

'used pedicure set' Wonderful...

I got an $8 gift token for a bookshop from SS18- which got lost on the return journey.

DH got me a Bose wireless speaker which I wanted so that was nice. We don't spend a lot on each other at xmas though.

My mother managed to forget my birthday money gift (3 weeks before xmas) that she had promised me 3 times she would wire direct to my account and didn't. She then said she would put it in with DH and I's xmas money (she always gives money as she seems to be unable to buy anything for anyone - been like this for 30 years) and didn't.

DSO and I don't spend a lot on each other, but we then went and got a new TV for our bedroom with his Xmas bonus.

My SD26 has not bought me a gift ever (been in her life since she was 5), nor has she ever bought DH a gift.

DH always goes overboard when it comes to me. Some of it's great, sometimes he buys me something that I've looked at or casually commented on, but don't really need or want, and he thinks he's done good!

I don't want to squash his spirit but some of his gifts over the years have never been used. I just don't want him to waste his money and he gets his feelings hurt when I tell him that. Luckily, one of the presents he got me this year (that I don't need/want) just flat out doesn't work (he tried it, also), so he's okay with me taking it back.

A USED pedicure set?? OMG, how is that even possible?? Unless the skid used it before giving it to you...

I'm with Gimlet. I'd rather get a big box of nothing from the skids than thoughtless gifts.

I got a big box of nothing from the stepkids....not a gift, not a card, not a phone call, not even a text. DH got the same as I did from his adult Kids. I spent about $200 on each adult stepkids, sent their gifts to them, and got no thank you in any form for those presents. I am done with this nonsense!

PS...I have been in their lives for 18 years, and have always remembered their birthdays, Christmas and Easter. I am obviously a slow learner.

I don't expect something expensive, but damn you can at least get me something I can use or the kind of candy I like.

The pedicure gift was SD's that she received the year before from the Suga Momma, I saw it when she opened it.

I should have said regifted, I didn't reread what I put. I sure wouldn't give my GDD a used set lol.

But I don't do mani pedis so it was useless.

Both DH and I got nothing from OSD because she spent all her money rescuing a cat whose owner had passed and the cat was going to be put down. I’d rather that than the time I got a $2 pair of glove liners from Target.

Maybe you’re just difficult to buy for? A travel mug and a pedicure set are hardly offensive and most people would be able to use them. The cheap religious jewelry is bizarre, but if you accepted a similar gift last year and thanked ss he probably thought you might like something similarly this year. Either that or is he trying to save your soul or convert you?

I admit I'm picky when it comes to gifts and people tell me I'm hard to shop for, but the truth is I want gifts that either fit my personality or gifts that are something I enjoy and want to use.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to get a present that you enjoy...I mean how many of us on here go out of our way to get spouses, kids, skids, parents etc. nice thoughtful gifts?

I don't understand why we shouldn't be allowed to want a nice thoughtful gift in return. To me it's a slap in the face to assume we deserve less because we are a step parent.

And no I have never gotten a gift from my SD, but I made sure for every Christmas, birthday etc. that she was given what she wanted on her wish list.

LOL.

DH bought tires for my car and gave me a nice hoodie... a few bottles of chocolate raspberry truffle wine... a purse... and arranged a 4 day NO KIDS stay-cation. That alone is worth more to me than you can imagine.

My kids gave me chocolate, fuzzy socks, books, and "coupons"... those made me laugh. I always get them. Silly things like chores, meal cooking, back rubs... and scratch tickets. They see DH and I scratching some now and then, so they figured why not. Their dad must have bought them. lol

All of them say I'm really hard to shop for, because I have everything I need and I get the things I want...
