OT - banged up, broke, but back

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Hello my STalk family. I've missed you terribly. My apologies for the long hiatus and no contact (I'll get to PMs as soon as I can).

If you recall, my darling furbaby, Mr. P, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. Surgery was successful and he gets around on 3 legs better than his Mommy does on 2. His energy is great and his appetite is even better. Chemo started mid-November. Unfortunately, we have to postpone this weekend because he has an infection in his incision. It doesn't look too bad and he's on a 2-week course of antibiotics and I clean it up 2x a day. The best boy in the world stands there unmoving and patiently while I wash, rinse, and peroxide. It must not feel good, but he doesn't even flinch. Just looks at me adoringly with those big, brown eyes. I'm praying several times a day that this infection clears up, chemo is successful, and I'll be spending Christmas 2017 (and longer) with my beautiful boy.

Mr. P is in better shape than I am. The evening of his surgery, I was in the kitchen preparing to make pumpkin bread pudding, turned, and apparently tripped over my own feet and fell. I honestly cannot recall exactly what happened. Everything is kind of a blur, but I did quite a number...

*The large glass bowl (antique) in my hands went flying and shattered into a million pieces.
*I hit the stove with my mouth, chipped one tooth, and knocked another back (I popped it back into place but now need a root canal).
*I torn ligaments in my right knee AND it took the brunt of the fall and is bone bruised.
*I managed to land my right arm smack dab in the middle of aaaaaaall that broken glass and had lots of tiny pieces in my arm and hand.

But you should see the stove! I showed it whose boss. I managed to remove a half inch of enamel straight down to the black!

Anyhoo... I was out of work (NO pay) for 3 weeks. OUCH. The dental insurance doesn't cover all of the work I need, so I used my Christmas savings (which is never a lot because I only buy for DH and my sis). Our phones are dead in the water until I can buy minutes. DH has his work phone but can only use it for emergencies. I'm the only non-work person who has that number. Even BioHo and the skids don't have it. So someone had better be dying for me to call DH on it or for him to make a non-work call. And DH is as broke as I am because his truck broke down and the repair cost $$$.

Thankfully, we had a full freezer/fridge/pantry and haven't had to buy anything other than milk, bread, and eggs. The skids are not at all happy that they're eating a buttload of frozen pizza (blech!!!) because they're such picky effers that it's the only thing they will eat of what we have available. And DH cannot afford to take them to McDonalds (Hahahahahaha!!!). PrincASS TOLD DH that DH NEEDS to make homemade pizza. DH burst out laughing. DH absolutely HATES cooking so baking a frozen pizza is as close to homemade as he'll get. I, on the other hand, make FABULOUS homemade pizza. But I doesn't cook for tw@twaffle skids. I confess that if we had the ingredients for ONE pizza, Evil Aniki would make HERSELF a pizza on a skid weekend...

BTW, I am off of the crutches, but still have arm and knee pain and keep getting cramps in the backs of my legs. Would anyone like to take me away for a weekend and feed me copious amounts of alcohol?

Oh my shattered nerves Aniki! We have been so worried about you and rightly so. Sending you copious amounts of love and care (hugs)

Wow! You have a dinger there! Happy note about Mr. P tho. Healing thoughts and hugs to both of you!

Kid you not, I once employed a young woman who had to miss work for a few weeks due an industrial accident at her night job. The stripper pole came loose from the ceiling, launching her off the stage. Can't make this sh!t up.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Dammit, Fruity, you got me. I was twirling on that stripper pole in a G-string and a brand new pair of 6" acrylic heels. I went for a heels-to-G-string-then-fling-legs-out for the big twirl. Aaaaaaand caught those damn acrylic heels in my G-string. Completely ripped it off, lost my balance, landed hard and broke one of the damn heels, which caused me to lose my balance and smack my mouth into the pole.

The worst part? It was my favorite G-string - made out of pearls. Sigh...

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Yes, Fruity. Confession is good for the soul. Evil Aniki needs alcohol. Lots and lots of alcohol.

Oh you poor thing! I didn't read "re-tear my arm", so I'm glad the surgery held through this terrible mishap!

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Crikey, secondplace, I didn't even think about a possible re-tear to the shoulder. And it was the same arm!! My knee (and tooth) definitely took the brunt.

lintini's picture

Omg, welcome back... Stop getting into fights with your kitchen appliances!

I hope you have a quick recovery!

Tuff Noogies's picture

welcome back darlin'. sending you copious amounts of virtual booze. and lots of hugs for both you and mr. p. i'll raise a can to toast you when i get off work - "here's to rapid healing for aniki and mr p".

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Tuff, I think I'll be making myself a double martini when I get home tonight. And maybe, just maybe, I'll go see Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them...

ESMOD's picture

Shoot.. that sounds painful in many more ways than one. It never rains.. it pours! Hope you feel better very soon.

Welcome back Aniki, sorry to hear about your accident. I did take a turn on the pole while you were gone but from what I'm told I wasn't as near as entertaining as you. As for your fur baby, I used to be a Veterinary Physical Therapy Tech and worked a lot of oncology as well, your Mr. P should do just fine, I worked with several tripods and all adjusted well. What is his breed? Some breeds handle the chemo better than others.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Major Blunder, you have to remember that the pole is there to make YOU look good. Wink

It's been 5 weeks since surgery and the concern about the infection is that the vet expected the incision to be healed by now. The vet believes that there may have been something lurking in there and, this being the post-chemo low point of his immunity, is what caused it to get a foothold. The important thing (besides the antibiotics) is to get out any infection and keep the incision cleaned out so it can heal. I feel so awful because Mr. P has been through so much, but he has been an absolute champ throughout it all. It's his Mommy who is a total wreck. Mr. P is a pointer/lab mix and is handling the chemo well.

robin333's picture

Aniki!! I have been worried about you. Seriously, I have been pestering people asking about you. I'm so sorry. Copious amounts of alcohol are warranted.

Give Mr. P a hug from me. Please remember to use a mat the next time you get back on that pole!

Aniki-Moderator's picture

OMG, robin, I cannot use a mat whilst on the stripper pole. Lordy, woman, you must be joking!. Do you know what kind of damage my stilettos will do to that mat? And seeing as I'm THE clumsiest poler, I'm sure to catch a heel in one of the hundreds of holes and trip. Dang!

I do, however, want to look into getting a rubber cover for the pole. It will definitely be more forgiving if I happen to crash into it again!

P.S.
Sorry I worried you. The past few weeks have been a virtual nightmare. xoxo

Major Blunder's picture

Pointers and Labs do excellent during and after chemo. The infection is a toughy, chemo always lowers immunity, you're doing an excellent job from the sounds of it of getting him through this and he sounds like a great patient. Since Mommy is a wreck just lean on Mr. P, he still has one more leg than you and sounds like he can take you through this.

NoWireCoatHangarsEVER's picture

Aww I am so so sorry. I am glad your fur baby is doing well but I am so sorry about your injuries. My step kids would be the same way. "Take me to McDonalds! Buy me pizza!" Even after car repairs and no pay and the cable has been turned off. They don't recognize other people's struggles

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Nowire, you got that right. The skids don't care that DH and I are struggling financially right now. Especially since Christmas is right around the corner. DH told me he tried to explain to PrincASS and PigPen that Christmas will be 'light' this year - meaning their gift cards will be $100 instead of $500 (WAAAAAAY too much, IHMO).

Notice I said DH "TRIED to explain...". At 14 and 17, they should understand the concept of money and not having any.

Tuff Noogies's picture

no $#!t. kaos has been "spending" money we dont have - "daddy we need this." "daddy we need that." "why dont we just pay for xyz?"

sure kid. our bank card got declined yesterday for kaos' meds, and our mortgage was due on the 1st. so why dont you just run out back and pull a benjamin off the money-tree for me, would ya?

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Tuff, DH had the money talk with them BEFORE the truck breaking down. They already knew we are financially strapped. So it was AFTER spending $$$ to fix the truck that they whined about homemade pizza (hello! you have to BUY the ingredients) and were huffy they didn't get to go to McDonald's after they visited with DH's grandma. Arseholes.

Tuff Noogies's picture

oh yeah. dh and i have both made mention of how money is tight (or, well, non-existent at this very moment) plenty of times. puh-len-teeeee. lurch is not nearly as bad but he does need to get an after-school job to start paying his gas, ins, and entertainment. but kaos just has no concept at all.

it's good and bad at the same time. i mean, it's kind of nice that they grew up knowing that we would/will ALWAYS provide for them. which is the total opposite of their time w/ dumb@$$.

and yeah, pizza is not as cheap as it sounds to make at home!!!!! the cheese alone has gotten pricey.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

PrincASS is old enough to get a job, BUT... he doesn't have a driver's license! You see, if he had a DL, BioHo would make him drive Spawn and PigPen wherever they need to go. No DL; no chauffeuring for 'Ho. Clever of PrincASS, but makes it impossible to get a job because 'Ho isn't about to drive him to/from work. That would mean she couldn't get drunk every night!! Kudos to Mr. Pinhead for being smart enough to refuse to drive his skids around.

Exjuliemccoy's picture

We've missed you, Aniki. I was worried that you might be incarcerated for some skid-related violence.

Please tell me there's still enough room in the budget for Amaretto?

Acratopotes's picture

welcome back stranger ......

Now they say bad luck happens in 3's.... dammit woman read the fine print, don't get greedy and do it all in one day

glad you are okay - and very happy about P... now he can live his life again by assaulting SS with his tail!!!!

I actually had a whole other scenario in my head why you went MIA.... but you know my dirty mind Wink

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Acra, you and your dirty mind probably had me away at Dominatrix school teaching classes. }:)

Woman, you KNOW the amount of whiskey I'd have to drink to assault a skid would kill me!! Unless a skid hurt my darling Mr. P. Then I wouldn't need ANY whiskey and there would be a skid funeral!

Major Blunder's picture

Upon advice from counsel I want to but can not comment on Acra's dirty Mind or Dominatrix School (this is literaly killing me) lol

Major Blunder's picture

Ohhhhh so not fair lol, you know I can't ask for something like that. I have to mind my "P's" and "Q's" or else get the wrong end of the Stalkers round here.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Fruity!!! Ask NICELY? Bwahahahaha!!!!!!!! Why on earth would I give a display of my whip techniques if asked NICELY?? Surely, the entire point is for one to ask me IMPUDENTLY. Hmph.

Acratopotes's picture

Well my friend - exactly.... and I was rather hurt cause I was not invited to class...

now I feel like an idiot... there was no lessons cause teacher got hurt practicing at home }:)

Aniki-Moderator's picture

My dear Acra, you will be the first person to whom I issue an invitation to the class. }:)

Acratopotes's picture
