How long can she go

Ninji's picture

SD13 has been at our house since Friday. Still hasn't showered. She is leaving on Wednesday and at this point I'm betting that she won't shower unless DH makes her.

I wonder how long she would go if no one ever brought it up. Last time she was with us for 4 days and on her period and didn't shower.

Oh, oh, me! Call on me! I know this one!

My sd was at our house for winter break one year. She went 11 days without bathing. I'll spell that out so everyone knows it's not a typo. Eleven.

Yup.

I'm sorry, I just don't get the lack of bathing. Is it that they still have that child mindset where baths were fought?

Once you get to pubertyland... bathing becomes pretty much a self evident need.

Ninji's picture

I agree. I told SS11 to shower last night but didn't say anything to SD13 thinking she is old enough to know she needs to shower. Now I'm just waiting.

LochnessStepMonster's picture

I think my private parts would be on fire if i went without bathing for that long. Is she using perfumes or something to cover the stink?

I wouldn't even bring it up. Something like that a healty dose of peer pressure will take care of.

I would burn the sheet tho. And the mattress. Possibly the bedroom.

gag - thanks Ninji....

why not ask DH is it's him that stinks...... he will quickly say NO, then you can say well not me either (smell yourself ) and say some one in this house is either farting, rotting from the in side or needs a good bath,,,,
pretend not to know it's SD

Ninji's picture

He knows. As defensive as his is of his kids. He says all the time they stink. She hides in her room unless she's eating so I don't think he even notices.

Acratopotes's picture

tell him - Hon, SD is a young lady now, if she does not wash her fanny she can get infections and then you will have to deal with it and pay the costs..... sit his ass down and get all the info - even get some disgusting pictures lol

ChiefGrownup's picture

Mine got one! ER trip for massive UTI that had reached her bladder. Still doesn't bathe or change her clothes that I can see.

Acratopotes's picture

Mine got one as well lol..... I said nothing till SO asked me what smells like rotten fish...

I just ave him the link to all the info... took him a year to get Aergia to shower daily lol...

I usually do. This is an experiment to see if she will, as a 13 year old female, decide to shower on her own.

Harry's picture

What are you afraid of ? If they stink just say : you stink, take a shower. If you don't like it then don't smell !!! Let me tell you. I worked for a school system. And it common for teachers to blame the parents between themselves. How can there parents let them go in public looking like that, smelling like that. People notice, because they don't say to your face doesn't mean they are saying it behind your back.

Ninji's picture

I'm not afraid of anything. I just think she should be mature enough at 13 to know when to shower. Thus the experiment to see how long she will go.

JustAgirl42's picture

No way I'd be able to conduct that experiment unless she was wrapped in saran wrap or something. She would NOT be on my furniture otherwise!

Dad needs to be educated.

FieryEscape's picture

Exactly ! I tell little miss stinky that she isn't allowed to sit on any furniture outside of her room until she scrubs her smelly ass.

GROSS!

I couldn't ignore it ...I'd be much to annoyed and pissed off having to put up wth the stench in my home. I'd be all over DH to deal wth it or else he would have listen to me nag.

zerostepdrama's picture

Ewwww do you let her on the furniture? I get so grossed out thinking about dirty people being on my couch.

Ninji's picture

The only time she comes out of her room is to eat and use the bathroom. I am grateful for the use the bathroom part because she didn't use to.

Killingmeslowly's picture

Zero, my thoughts exactly.

I used to have a really hard time even letting SS21 lay his head on our couch pillows after he hadn't washed his hair in DAYS. Gross, greasy, dirty hair smell all over my pillows. Sad Nope. I have since thrown them in the trash.

But dirty, nasty, teenage body all over my furniture?? Nope. Nope. Nope.

Hope, for your sake AND hers, that she figures it out soon. Ew.

OMG - I had some major abdominal surgery, had drainage tubes for 2 weeks and was not allowed to shower. I did wash everything I could touch - but boy was I glad to get in that shower finally. Yuck Yuck Yuck

Ninji's picture

DH and I have both told her she STINKS. I have told her that I'm sick of having to leave my car windows open over night after DH picks her up. I have purchased deodorant for our house, BM's house and for her to take to school. I have told her that she doesn't have friends because she stinks. Nothing works.

She's just a gross person.

Ninji's picture

LOL one weekend SS11 had to shower FOUR times. He still stank. DH had him put on swim shorts and went in the bathroom and showed him how to shower again.

lintini's picture

I feel your pain. SS15 doesn't use soap. DH tells him to shower, it's pitiful. I'm shaking my head remembering how he used the HANDTOWEL to dry himself off with and then hung it back up for the rest of the household to use. He also hasn't been brushing his teeth or ever washing his hands. He's missed a lot of school from being sick monthly. He is always sick. I now call him "typhoid ___" DH brought him over last week and he was very sick, croop cough, snot everywhere. I asked Dh what was up since we have an infant and I have an autoimmune disease and don't need his illness. DH explodes. His typical reaction when he knows he is wrong but didn't want to deal with BM.

Anyways, I bet she doesn't shower at your house. Ugh.

DaizyDuke's picture

Lawdy!!! That is just so gross! Sure, there have been times that I have skipped a day of showering because I'm sick or busy or lazy, but I could NEVER go three days, I would feel filthy and I can't stand that unshowered "smell" that your body gets. GROSSSSS! I can not understand how anyone can do this!????

DaizyDuke's picture

SD19 always showered, I'll give her that. It was the toilet paper she had issues with. The record of no TP in the bathroom that she exclusively used was 7 days. Sad That is just beyond gross. She also had an issue with disposing of pads and tampons properly... unwrapped in the bottom of the garbage for DH to find, in a little back pack thrown behind her TV stand, still stuck to her underwear in the laundry basket. I would have been mortified at that age!!!

Ninji's picture

I have also recorded the no toilet paper. Two weekends..So six days and I was the one that finally stocked it.

My SD has also had problems with disposal of her pads. I found several unwrapped under the bathroom sick. I took pictures and sent them to DH. She also won't empty the trash can in the kids bathroom so the used pads will sit in there for weeks on end.

still learning's picture

Ask her to help you wash the car and accidently dump a bucket of soapy water on her. She might melt but oh well.

Cover1W's picture

Ahhhhhh...yesssssss.

DH brought up this subject with me, on his own, last night.
I was away for the weekend visiting a friend. Amazing how alone time with his own kids opens his eyes.

Apparently he was with them in the car (this has happened before) and he said BOTH of them smelled, esp. SD13 who was in the passenger seat. He had to roll the windows down it was so bad. At the restaurant they went to (I would have turned the dang car around and demanded showers not lunch!) she TOOK OFF HER SHOES. He said it was revolting and got on her about that AND then still had to move to the other side of the booth so he couldn't smell her.

He's noticing SD11 is getting smelly too. I did tell him I'd get her some deoderant next time I'm at the store because I agree with him.

SD13 went from Tues - Saturday without bathing. 5 days.
SD11 from Tues - Sunday. 6 days.

At least SD11 got in the shower on her own volition on Sunday (negotiated due to schedules and SD13 had to be somewhere on Saturday plus SD11 wasn't as bad) and then washed clothing on her own (second time! Whoo-hoo!). I did let him know she's not always brushing her teeth in the morning, even though she says she does...he said he's going to start checking that (I don't believe that yet b/c he said the same thing about SD13 last year). At least she's brushing each night.

I also, very gently, reminded DH that SDs room stinks: she hasn't washed her pjs since she got them on Xmas (wears them all the time), she wears dirty clothes constantly, her pink sheets are gray (not washed since last fall, for certain not since November), and she doesn't brush her teeth. He took it very, very well and I think understands the issue now - I think. We'll see what changes...

Ninji's picture

DH knows they stink. He's just so used to me getting on them to shower. I would say he's the one that is disengaged.

Vivian7's picture

I always felt that was something I could address. After all it's my house and my furniture too. I do not have to be subjected to the stink. I made them shower or bathe every day. No exceptions. Personal hygiene is a huge issue for me...

Acratopotes's picture

Ninji... did she shower yet, or did she trip head first into a bathtub filled with bleach?
