Spinach & Swiss Cheese

Endora's picture

I am constantly being told what SS16 "Zippy" likes and does not like to eat by DH who worries, when he works, that Zippy will eat the dinners I prepare when he is away from Precious.

I am a self confessed "foodie" -5'1" 117 lbs (just so you know I love the cooking part!)-My BS's watched me cook while they were growing up and both sons studied under a certified Italian chef(think chef Ramsay in Italian!) in their high school years and can cook circles around me (oldest son is in the high-tech field, cooks part time in a nice restaurant-youngest son is still cooking and going to school).

I was told Zippy hates spinach and swiss cheese-ah hah

Tonight I made a killer lasagna with (yes, you guessed it ) spinach-Zippy is on his third plate full now-wait till Daddy comes home!)

The other week, with DH at home I made chicken cordon bleu, (told DH to zip his lip and see what Zippy said about dinner--(yep -you guessed it, with swiss cheese)-Zippy ate pretty much the whole thing--poor DH could not have seconds }:)

What frustrates me most-is that Zippy has quite a scientific, logical mind-

Swirling down the toilet of guilt parenting and Disneyland makeup ...

DH says to me "Whatever is the reason you find this "Hard to Watch" Sad

You do exactly what I do when BF isn't around, and it amazes me everytime that the skids will behave better when BF isn't home. They will eat what their given and do their chores when asked.

Spinach and Swiss Cheese - Yum. Even if Zippy doesn't want it, I'll have his share.

After the "spinach incident" last night (no I did not tell Zippy what he was eating)-DH notices that Zippy's favourite mayonnaise is getting low-DH put the "specific" brand mayo on the grocery list-cannot have Zippy eating generic mayonnaise!

Buy the generic mayo...
Fill up Zipster's name brand jar with it...

GUARANTEED he'll never know the difference!

I do this when the "Princesses" require their "name brand" food items.

Yeah, sure- they're such connoisseurs of good taste and have such discerning palates. RIGHT! Wink

Mom or Dad's look of alarm.

When we were young my little bro would ask my Mom "do I like this?" any time there was something unfamiliar put on the table in front of him.

I think often kids respond more to their parent's reactions, body language and facial expressions than their own thoughts.

BTW, my Mom would always respond to my brother, "Yes! you love this!" and usually he would dig right in.

Best regards,

and put it in the used non generic container!! I will admit some things generic do suck but for the most part it is just as good as the more popular NAME brands.
give me a break. this is how kids grow up entitled. ..

DH used to make such a production about making Zippy's lunches perfect.(Zippy makes his own lunch now (NOT) he is supposed to but is too lazy to make it so he buys his lunch as he is working now-no skin off my nose and I do not have to watch the nauseating sandwich making show!

You can go to the effort of eating it. I make "normal", relatively bland food - meatloaf, beef stew, pork chops, fried potatoes, etc. But SD doesn't like tomatoes... or onions. Oh well. I refuse to make four other people (who all LOVE onions) never eat another meal with onions again, because SD doesn't like them. Mind you, she never notices onion powder or onion flakes in anything. I compromised and said that I'd chop the onions big enough that she could pick them out. It goes against my nature to let her pick them out, but I saved my battle for the tomatoes. I told her that if she didn't want to eat tomatoes, she didn't have to. But... no more pizza, tacos, ketchup, barbeque sauce, etc. She hit the roof. I'm sorry, but a tomatoe is a tomatoe. She now eats tomatoes. She gags and retches through it, until I threaten to make her eat in the bathroom by herself.

I will not force a child to eat. If she doesn't eat what I cook she can skip the meal. It won't kill her, she'll survive until morning. Oh, I catch he!! about it, but it's not like I'm forcing her to eat chocolate covered boogers.

Geeeezzzzz..When DH and I got together Step Snot (4 at the time) was exactly like that..DH's gene pool feed her a steady diet of chicken noodle soup and grilled cheese because that's all that she liked and she would "cry" if they tried to feed her anything else...Oh and did I fail to mention that they still spoon fed her like she was an infant in a high chair????

I nipped that in the bud real quick...This isn't a resturant..You eat what I make or go hungry...If Dh is so worried that "HRH Zippy" (I love it!) get his special mayo and other food perhaps he should go shopping for Prince Pin Head!!

In a perfect world their would be retroactive abortion capabilities. ~ disgusted

refuses to eat real food. BM takes her to eat fast food ALL. THE. TIME. And get this. The other day BM told us that SD8 is getting a little chunky... she needs to eat healthier food. I don't know why she told us, because DH and I cook real food. BM is the one who takes her out every day to McDonalds or Burger King. Hmmm... could that be why BM never has money and SD8 is getting so chunky? :o

Anyway... because SD8 is used to all this junk and fast food, she refuses to eat almost anything we have. DH gets upset because he doesn't want her to starve but I tell him over again, "Well, if she won't eat what we cook, then let her starve!" DH will still let her get away with eating very little real, home made food and a lot of junk food. :barf: I'm to the point of throwing away all junk food but I have a feeling that DH will just buy some more anyway. But whatever. SD8 can gain weight for all I care... if she becomes obese and gets diabetes... I will know it wasn't because of me.
