Feel Like I Dodged Some Major Bullets

DH and I were recently talking about finally redoing our basement...and once again the idea of a skid living there came up. He lives in such a fantasy world.

In the past, I would have hemmed and hawed and been like: "Let me think about it." Instead, with this...I simply said that's a terrible idea. I told him that it would create tension and resentment in our marriage if I took out a loan to fix up the house and then immediately turned the keys to the basement apartment over to his daughter. What if she didn't keep it nice? What if she became a nuisance and I felt like I was paying for the privilege?

He briefly mentioned rent and tried to counter...but then stopped and said: "No. You're right. That's a terrible idea...it's time for the days of kids living with us to be officially over. There's no way to create enough separation to make it not feel like an imposition on our lifestyle."

Jaw dropped.

Of course...a few hours before this he'd been bemoaning the fact that he didn't make any effort to have YSD for "all of Spring Break" like he normally does. But whatevs. I'll take the victories as they come.

haha reminds me of SD20 cockamamie plan when she was home for Christmas break, for us to turn the upstairs of our garage into an apartment for her, because she knows she's not to live/stay in my home after her nonsense.  I laughed so hard when DH told me that!  REALLYSD???  You really think we're going to spend thousands to renovate the garage so you can trash it, not pay any rent and continue to be a pain in our ass???  Or so you can flake out as usual and stay for 2 months and then move to Egypt or some nonsense?   NOT.EVER.GOING.TO.HAPPEN.
