O/T My Purebred Cat Has An Affinity for Insulation

thinkthrice's picture

Chef is now insulating the 2 story garage. Problem is that my younger male cat luuurves him some insulation. He practically died from it when he was no more than 2 years old. Between eating it and inhaling, rubbing and rolling in it, he will come down with an respiratory infection.

Same thing 8 1/2 years later. Cat sneaks out of the house and makes for the garage. WHAMMO, comes down with an infection one week later.

ARRGHH! Is it just that MALE cats get into so much mischief? My older (17 yrs old) female Siamese cat doesn't seem to get into anything and she seems extremely healthy--other than when SD (Dominatrix 18) shot her in the backside with a BB gun (nine years ago).

How did you manage that my oldest cat has bolted out the door as soon as I open it and there I am dropping everything and running after him like a crazy person. Luckily he has only ever gotten about 15 feet without freaking out and stops enough for me to catch him. The younger one just sits at the door and looks up at me while I walk in.

Neither one is afraid of being outside. I decided to buy harnesses and leashes. They love them they both sit at the door when I grab them and take them in the back yard. Guess what the oldest one who likes to bolt will run back to the door to go inside the moment something freaks him out.

LOL. I tried that with the oldest to keep him on the counters never worked with him he will still jumps up all the time to look out the window over the sink. Maybe I should try again.

I have always wanted an African Grey. They are so gosh darn expensive!! I have a two cat limit self imposed--simply don't have time for more pet care than I already have.

I have two male tabby cats and had one for almost 5 and the other for 3 years. I got them when they were kittens and they are funny. The oldest does loves loves loves to lick plastic bags and randomly the wall near the radiator heater. I yell at him all the time so he does not get sick but he still does it.

My younger one is a clutz I never thought a cat could be so not coordinated but he will fall off things or stumble it cracks me up. They are both curious cats and have their moments of getting into things both love yarn so I am constantly having to hide that. They are both pretty mellow will lay around the house in their favorite spots. I have had people tell me that male cats are more energetic and also more affectionate.

Please be careful with the plastic bags. I had a cat accidentally put her head through one the handle on a grocery bag. When she moved it made noise and she completely panicked. She ran all over the place as fast as she could. She kept running into things - I was afraid she was going to kill herself. She finally ran behind a bookcase and I was able to get her as she came back out.

I am really careful because he too has gotten his head caught more than once while I am putting away groceries. I wish it was just that he likes all things that are plastic bags. The trash bag handles that are drawstring, if food come in a little plastic bag, sandwich baggies. He is so weird with that stuff I do not get him.

I used to have a can of compressed air with a motion detector that would blast air at the cats if they came near a place that was a no no. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWK7IZdx4qY

Also I've used sticky tape to keep them from clawing the furniture.

I was wondering how these devices can be deployed in a skid situation

Those glorious, mischievous felines! Keep kitty safe and limit his temptation to nontoxic items. I know-easier said than done.

I had a cat that would try that a lot. I always had to open the door just a slit, put my leg in it, and then slip out before she could.

LOl this sounds like me. I am safe when I leave but both butts are at the door greeting me so I lead with my leg or hold what I am carrying low enough so that hits my oldest and he backs away. They an be so quick at times.
