Noticed that YSS14 Is in Braces. . .

thinkthrice's picture

Soooo... when OSS20 and SD18 turned EIGHT, the Girhippo slapped them in middle class status orthodonture (without consulting Chef of course and using Chef's insurance)

Now that they are on the GIRHIPPO'S insurance policy, she waited until Prince Hygiene (YSS14) turned FOURTEEN before getting orthodonture.

HMMMM. And YSS's teeth were the worst of all three.

I don't see anything nefarious here

I saw the orthodontist paperwork after paying 200% of the expenses--it got rolled into CS as additional expense and never stopped after it was paid for; I caught it and put a stop to it through the courts. The Girhippo has a pattern of just staying quiet and letting the ill gotten CS roll in.

There was no mention of palatal expansion on any of the paperwork.

Did I mention the orthodontist the Girhippo chose does nothing but children's orthodonture; no other dental work, has a yacht, his office looks like the Taj Mahal and a Jaguar XJ X351 in the "doctor only" parking space?

It WAS coming out of my pocket when she decided unilaterally to slap the oldest skids in middle class status braces. I was funding Chef while he was OVERpaying his CS AND they were on his health insurance whereas I had my own.

She COULD have used a standard dentist/orthodontist, but she HAD to use the orthodontist "to the star's" children. She PURPOSELY chose THE most EXPENSIVE orthodontist to put the squeeze on Chef and me.

She did this with EVERYTHING including signing the skids up for every freaking extracurricular program known to mankind knowing full well it will come out of Chef's and indirectly MY pocket. She NEVER paid her share of anything nor the co-pays. Her sole purpose in life was to stick it to Chef and me. So yes, nefarious.

Now that the skids are on HER insurance policy, she can afford to wait as long as possible before getting medical services for the skids.

KWIM?

Is_What_It_Is's picture

Maybe she got a clue that putting braces on an 8yo is a waste and decided to wait?

If I had to do it all over again - I would have told them to wait until 14 too. I spent $5,000 on braces and now she needs them again yet is refusing to cooperate with them because the first experience was so horrid! Seriously, the outcome would have been better (granted longer) if I had waited until she was 14.

thinkthrice's picture

I doubt she was enlightened; her whole goal was to stick it to Chef and me and that's why she put the skids in middle-class status braces using the most humanly possible expensive orthodontist that she could find.

Disneyfan's picture

But you made the choice to have your money used in all of this. You could have pulled your funding out of that at any time and simply told the parents to figure it out on their own.

When did brace become a status symbol? :? :?

When did having a successful career become a bad thing? :? :? :?

When did being able to afford expensive toys become a bad thing? :? :?

Livingoutloud's picture

Pediatriac orthodontists only do that, why would they do something else? They make good money. It's a given. I really don't understand what him having yacht has anything to do with it.

thinkthrice's picture

I don't begrudge anybody their living. To do so would be class envy which is very socialist. I am dead set against socialism and wealth redistribution as was the goal of the last US president.

It was the principle of the thing; see my response to Echo.

thinkthrice's picture

you have your own business? "You didn't build that!"
President Obama ROCKED !
would have to agree to disagree

Livingoutloud's picture

Do you split medical expenses? What does CO say?

Regardless what CO says or what BM wants, I'd never pay CS or alimony on
DH's behalf. Why did you fund his financial obligation? Are you two married? I'd separate finances. BM is an idiot but it's not her fault that YOU fund his obligations. Why?

notasm3's picture

"Why do you insist on constantly referring to orthodontic care as "middle class status braces"? Is that some form of insult? Kids need braces."

I am old as dirt. In my day kids did not get braces unless there was a severe problem. Some of my friends who had minor imperfections did not get braces 60 years ago even if their parents had tons of money.

I had a spaces between my teeth when I was a young teen. My parents could not afford braces so I did not have them. But my teeth shifted into perfection. I've had 5-6 dentists over the years (because I moved a lot) tell me that I have a perfect bite.

I've often had people tell me (kind of a weird compliment) what perfect teeth I have. In today's world I'd have been slapped in braces by age 13 or 14.

Not all kids need braces!

I got braces at age 11 - 41 years ago. OOOOOOOUUUUCCCCHHH!!!! Metal bands that surrounded each tooth and were SHOVED up into the gum area, held together by twisted wires that were cut off and bent, but still gouged into your mouth and gums leaving them bleeding and horribly sore; ickle wax to COVER the ouchie, protruding wires; stupid little rubber bands that broke and SNAPPED and stung; not being able to bite into apples or corn on the cob for fear of breaking those damn wires and making an EXTRA trip...

I'd have given my eyeteeth to have braces like the ones available today!!

Livingoutloud's picture

I have never heard of braces as "middle class status" item. I dont really understand your issues with middle class and well-off people. You clearly have social status envy. Your post seems rather socialist

And what's your issue with "doctor only" parking spot? It's very common for doctors to have their own parking spaces by the office. Again is this status envy?

If your DH (or SO?) isn't pulling his own weight and you support him, then take it up with him. You are upset with wrong people.

Ah the BM Brigrade arrives right on cue. The two older skids inherited Chef's teeth which are the straightest, most perfect teeth I've ever seen---movie star teeth. Now YSS on the other hand, inherited the Girhippo's teeth and truly needs braces. The skids hung out with their older cousins; the coolest happening to have bracees.

sprinkle in:
1. Gir's inability to say no to skids
2. Opportunity to choose most expensive ortho and stick it to Chef
3. Chef was NOT consulted about it per the CO (a 2nd opinion would have been sought)
4. Skids were told that "Mommy is paying for everything including the braces; dad pays for NOTHING" ( a direct quote parroted from OSS, at the time 8 yrs old)
5. Wash, rinse and repeat two years later with SD
6. Putting braces on children whose parents don't even make them do basic oral hygiene is adding insult to injury.

Livingoutloud's picture

i am certainly not a BM brigade. It's nothing to do with BM though. She can't legally force you to pay for anything. Does it say in
CO that you must pay for skids????

I just don't understand why are you paying for things that is moms and dads responsibility? Especially if it's not an emergency. Braces isn't an emergency. You don't even think they need braces and yet you paid for it? What the heck for?

Cooooookies's picture

Ok Thinkthrice, I know you've been through Stephell. We all are/have. However I thinks it's making you slightly jaded. There is no crime here. You overpaid once, corrected it, it's done. Why did you pay anyway as they are not your kids?

Braces have nothing to do with a person's social status. Irrelevant and sounds quite petty.

Insurance is paying for this, you aren't.

Doctors make good money. They go to school for an obscene amount of years and have the talent to do very specific things that the average person could not do. Hence makes good money.

I get it - the Girhippo put/puts you through hell. Your own DH puts you through hell. You don't even call him your DH you're so fed up. But darlin' you still stay. Your choice.

If you feel so miserable that you're getting worked up over braces that have zero impact on you and have to insult income brackets...you need to rethink your choices in life.

Livingoutloud's picture

She said she paid for older kids braces. I understand it's upsetting my but it's certainly a choice. If I buy some things for skids it's certainly MY choice. BM sounds awful but she can't force SM to pay for skids.

I feel for children with crooked teeth.... first time I met Aergia I told SO - this kid needs braces...

I was told no the dentist said when she's 21 only....

I kept quiet.... after years and years of telling him... make a plan she's a girl (Aergia only has 7 teeth in her whole mouth) I was told, 21....

Last year due to dentist retiring and new guy (I've been going to him for years - the new bloke) the New dentist says WTF... immediately get this kid braces and wrote ref note to Ortho... (yes we can not see specialist with out general practitioner note) the Ortho almost had a heart attack and ask why was she not brought in earlier... she's almost to old, jaw is almost fully grown and it's not going to help much - only solution is to try and hope it works....
alternative is pull everything and get dentures....

SO had the cheek to ask me why did I not say anything earlier... :jawdrop: I smiled and said - not my child not my decision

DaizyDuke's picture

7 teeth in her whole mouth???? wth happened to the other 25???? :O

Acratopotes's picture

@ DaizyD - yes poor girl only has 7 teeth .... huge gaps lol....

I have no clue, no one in SO's family has this problem , they all have nice teeth, no one knows BM's family.....
BM clearly have implants..... bad job as well, thus must come from her side.... or maybe too much mixed sperm and they got confused... who knows.....

BM told brat it's because she was a very very sick baby and for ever on antibiotics.... now I now this is BS...
yes it does damage teeth but it does not cause only 7 teeth lol....

from your other comment - WTH is your son a late bloomer, age 7 Deigma already lost all his baby teeth... ... by age 8 he had 32 teeth.... clearly he missed the wisdom teeth lol... explains why he is the way he is Wink

DaizyDuke's picture

I don't know! he finally lost his first tooth 2 months before he turned 7. He lost the second one a couple months later, but has zero others that are currently loose!! The last time BS was in for a cleaning, I asked the dentist if there was something wrong with him, why he wasn't losing his teeth?? And he said the longer they keep them in the better and not to worry about it one bit. So I don't lol

stepmomof1biomomof1's picture

My son is 12 and still has baby teeth. He was loosing them at a regular rate and then didn't loose a single one for 4 years!! I kept asking the dentist if it was normal. She assured me that it was. He now has to have a baby tooth pulled and wear a retainer to hold the gap so the tooth under it can have room to come through. Orthodontist said that boys loose teeth slower than girls?

Acratopotes's picture

have no clue if she's still involved with the married guy or not.... also not going to ask..

Ya know SO told her to stop.....

Acratopotes's picture

4 teeth top jaw - front with huge gaps, 3 on the bottom..... she had a retainer with false teeth for the rest..

now they put on braces to pull the teeth together so they can do implants, she goes bi weekly to the ortho, then he straps it tighter, I actually feel for her, it's very painful and she cries allot on the day of the adjustment...
sometimes I wonder why did her parents not do anything when she was young? But I ignore her crying..

DaizyDuke's picture

What the heck? Isn't 8 kinda young to have braces? My BS7 has only lost 2 teeth! I guess unless your skids had crappy teeth and they all fell out quick?? My land, that just seems so early, but I'm not a dentist, nor do I play one on TV, so what do I know? Wink

Sweet T's picture

My oldest former step son had the pallet expander before the braces because his teeth were too big for his mouth. AT night we had to lay down and his mom or I turned a tool in his mouth... it would make a popping noise ew... I personally paid out of my money for our part of out of my money. His teeth were jacked up and he needed them The second one had a cross bite issue. I was divorced by then from their dad and he totally stiffed BM1 on his part. She will not go after him for the 2K because she dreads having to deal with his tantrums. She has one more year and she is done.

I look at it this way if we were married still BS would be getting braces and I would be the one who paid so in our case it is what it is. Technically in my state since I now go through the state to collect CS they will go after him for medical as well, but not so sure it is worth the the shit storm that occurs.

stepadvice's picture

I didn't get braces until I was sixteen and trust me I needed them. The worst awful teeth. Back then there was no Ortho Insurance. My sister started at 8 because she had buck teeth and only needed 4 braces. She got teased awful at that age as she had braces and glasses. Not a fun combination.

Each person's teeth is different. My brother started at 10. Because I was the youngest my family couldn't afford to get me ortho work until they paid off for my brother and sister. The dentist still wanted to do more work on me after the retainer and braces but my father said no more your teeth are fine. I have a couple gaps but nothing like before the braces.

I do remember though before braces I needed to get my last baby teeth pulled before putting them on.

Livingoutloud's picture

I am pretty sure people follow orthodontists recommendations rather than whatever will piss off their ex, especially if ex neither pays for it nor sees the kids (even if because kids are PASed, why would ex spouses care if the kid wears braces if they don't see them like ever for many years)

Livingoutloud's picture

My niece is wearing braces now because she literally has second row of teeth growing on her gum. She started wearing them at 13-14 because that's what orthodontist said, not to piss anyone off. Both my nephews and niece needed braces but all at very different ages. One was younger and others had to wait longer. They are intact family so they aren't doing it to piss people off.

"Middle class status" comments and comments about what other people "own" and how much more they make than others etc is class and social status envy. My personal pet peeve. It's not that uncommon though to envy others rather than improve their own life situation.
