OT - the little things

TheAccidentalSM's picture

Its the little things that make you happy.

I just took delivery of a new keyboard that I bought on black Friday online.  I'd been pondering buying it for a while now and went ahead this weekend even though it wasn't on sale.

Its wireless so no mess.  It'll work with my work computer and personal tech.  And the keys are just right when I type in terms of pressure and sound.  So my silly keyboard is making me so happy today. *man_in_love*

What are the slightly mad things that bring you joy?

A clean house, oil diffuser going, and my christmas tree!

I love waking up early with a cup of coffee just enjoying the space.

I'm planning on taking leave over Christmas and one of the things I want to do is declutter the house.  Its so satisfying when everything is put away and tidy.

Christmas tree is going to have to wait until next weekend.

Getting up early, having a cup of coffee, cat on my lap, reading or catch up on the news and social media. A good 1.5 hours of down time.

Such a nice calm way to start your day.  And such good company.

And mileage done for the day!  Won't be long now since I'm officially retired from my main gig.

I half want you to stick a hidden camera at your main gig so you can tell us all about the chaos that ensures when you aren't there to hold everything together.

The 18th was my last day.   They spelled my name wrong on the happy retirement cake (I do have an unusual first name but still-- worked there for over 12 years)  I have a feeling Mrs. Headlights picked up the cake and was delighted they misspelled my name!

They also combined my "retirement party"  with a co workers 15 yr company anniversary!

But I came down with the flu the week of and am still battling the persistent cough.  Looking forward to getting into the new swing of things.

Your x-coworkers are the worst.  At least you are done with them and their nonsense. *dance4*

Hope you feel better soon.

When my daughter's guinea pigs are all happy to see me, even though I know it's because they're about to get food or a treat.  One of them, Princess Popcorn, not her real name, climbs up the cage bars to stand on her hind legs and lets me pet her.  She reminds me of a little dog sometimes.  She gets jealous if we pet one of the other two.

Sitting under a blanket in front of my space heater because I'm cold natured.  Better yet sitting in front of our fireplace with a roaring fire either roasting marshmallows or playing on my Kindle.

Looking at Christmas lights.  Not having to cook.  That moment right after I get all of the animals fed.  All my chores done.

They are always happy to see you and give generously of their love.

Open fires are wonderful.  We can't have them where I live but we'll get some in when we visit family for Christmas.

So many to choose from...

Thrifting and I find something REALLY cool that would cost 75% more somewhere else. Like my teapot collection. And my brass swedish candlesticks.

Looking at Christmas decor and planning how Im going to do things this year...

Having a glass of wine staring at my fish.

Coffee in the morning, while planning a new hike.

I love to do this but I have too much stuff so I'm trying to fill the local thrift/charity shops instead.

You can combine Christmas decor planning with wine or coffee drinking.  A real two for the price of one.

My car that ordered almost a year ago finally came in and I got it a week ago. I smile getting in it and walking to it when I get out of work.

I never had a "nice" car so it's a huge upgrade for me.

The extreme rare occasions I have the house to myself too. I wish they were more often though haha.

New car smell is so amazing.  Enjoy your gift to yourself.

I too love having an empty house on occassion.

Is it one of the type-writer styled keyboards??? I LOVE the look of those but one of my old coworkers had one and when he was typing it would clickity-clack so loud and distinctively that I could tell when he was backspacing vs typing. Iould never get one for myself to use at the office.

My peloton arrived this morning. I wanted one last year. Cancelled the order because I felt like I would never use it as I had other equipment I never use, and I had a gym membership that offers Spin classes just the same. I was going 5x a week. This time I pulled the trigger and I am very excited to give it a ride.

Its not one the typewriter ones.  I'd never do that.  I learnt to type on them and might have flashbacks to classes in high school.

Hope you enjoy the new bike.

When I was still in the corporate world, I used to leave home early to avoid the traffic, get to my office, make my coffee in a still silent building, and watch the sun rise over Mt. Ste. Victoire, perfectly at peace with the world... and then some b*****d went and built a block of flats that blocked my view. My mornings were never the same again.

I am now FREE, live out in the country, and can watch the sun rise and set to my heart's content.

That's so awful.  A decent view from the office can make all the difference.  I used to work in a run down building but it had the most amazing views all across London.  Never made it in for the sunrise but the sunsets were instagramable.

Glad you have your freedom these days.

I wish I liked it.  It seems to make so many people happy.  But I can't stand the taste.  I guess I'm just making sure to leave enough for the rest of you.  *ROFL*
