Punk Sentenced

Sentencing was yesterday. Since SS22 asked me to be there, I took the morning off and attended. BM was absent- she can not step into a courroom due to her own warrant- and her hiding from the law. SO told me that SS asked that I address the court on behalf of SS22 - say what I do, that "I know this kid," and that he has a great support system. That's right- he gave mea a script and asked daddy to make me stand and deliver. I told SO that I did not want to give my name or associate any of this with my job. He seemed annoyed. Oh well. I can not represent my employer (the government) when I am dealing with personal matters.

So the prosecutor went off on him, and we all learned some new information. For instance, he had 10 missed and a positive UA while out on bond.  And most of the time, he was not even calling in to see if he was supposed to drop. Then- it comes time to speak on his behalf, and SO got up and told the court what a sweet, empathic "child" he has, and that he would "dedicate his life" to making sure he did the right thing. An old teacher showed up adn spoke on his behalf. Saying he was intelligent and had a good heart.  That was it - Even his brothers and grandparents did not speak. They just sat there and cried.

Then it was time for SS22 to speak on his own behalf to the judge. After he listened to the DA tell the court he pled guilty to a mandatory minimum sentence crime- because he admitted  to threatening a guy with a gun after stealing his stuff. SS22 said eh was "speechless" and "shocked." The judge looked confised... "Why are you shocked?" she asked. "Because we are talking about my life, and you're talking about taking a lot of it away."  Then he said he has an addiciton, and he picked up something he couldn't put down, And he wants help. and she was not impressed. "What attempts have you made to get treatment?" she asked. He told her he completed the 12 DUI classes he was ordered t o do when he was 17 and slammed drunk into another car, putting a man into a coma. He admitted he has sought no treatment since then. The judge pointed out that he was Medicaid elligible. And he has done nothing.

, See- here is a young man who had a previous felony from ruining someone's life ,violated his probation by getting on heroin and running around robbing people and selling stolen stuff to pawn shops, then violated his bond over and over by not doing UAs, testing positive and picking up new charges. And then he gets up in front of a judge looking genuiinely surprised that he is being sentenced to the Dept. of Corrections. Actually had the nerve to tell the judge he was "shocked."  This did not go over well.

So he was given 6 years of prison. Which SO thinks will end up being closer to 3. When we walked out of the court room, his middle son (24) said twice that he wanted to "Jump the judge in the parking lot." And his oldest son (26) said he hoped the DA "shoots herself." SS24 thought SS22 got a 12-year sentence because he apparently doesn't know what it means when sentences run concurrenlty. "They don;t explain anything so you can understand!!!"  What are these people?? Hillbillies? Street trash? Of course the DA is not gonna kill herself. She probbaly has a very nice life. And real smart to threaten to jump a judge while you are standing in a courthouse. So weird.

I worked on consoling SO's mother. Just hugged her and held her and told her i was sorry. (BMs parents showed up, sat on the prosecutor's side and said nothing to anyone- apparently they hate everyone including their own daughter). When we were out in the parking lot, SO said, "Apparently, SS22 was not being as responsible as he was telling us. You can't help someone who won't help themselves." WHAT? Insight?? I was proud of him.

Good grief. "Jump the judge", and hoped the Prosecutor kills herself?? Because their brother is a train wreck?? The Judge and Prosecutor didn't do these things, he did them himself! Of course it's everyone else's fault, heaven forbid there be accountability. I hope that 3-6 years teaches him how to be a normal human. I think he needed a wake-up call.

Right??? I have been following your blog...it starts with the cell phones (SO bought SS22 a brand new iPhone X as soon as he popped him out on bond the last time- with unlimited data, blah blah (no one else has an iPhone X)....Eventually- they are making excuses for their criminal behavior, and allowing everyone else to be blamed and targeted except the jackass who is responsible.

We're jumping a judge and hoping a prosecutre kills themself... Because they did their job??? From the sound of it they gave a nice fair and reasonable judgement. So maybe we should... idk... Put the blame to the little convict??? The stupidity of some people....  I mean seriously. Yes I'd be sad if my kid was on trial. But if they did the crimes they're being convicted of... I'm sorry. But actions have consequences! Isn't that one of the first things most parents try to teach the little hellions???

I'm glad you didn't testify on his behalf. It likely wouldn't have benefitted him anyways, and also would have hurt your own credibility.

Thanks for this. I was actually kind of offended that SO was pressuring me to say something to the Judge. Especially that he wanted me to involve my career. Kind of put my professional name on the line for his loser son. I've worked too hard to get where I am to be dragged down by this ghetto crapola.

I'm sorry he even put you in that position. ANything you could have said wouldn't have changed the facts that he commited the crime. You shouldn't have to sacrifice all your hard work because he was an idiot!! You really never should have been put in that position.

It was crappy of him to ask you to speak for ss. I wouldn't have even went to the sentencing.

So...your husband has THREE punkass sons? Your respect for him must be hanging by a thread.

What did your SO think about the comments from his sons? Did it register with him how stupid and ignorant they sounded?  Is he going to continue to take calls from the jail?

I feel for you - some years ago a member of my family was killed by a drunk driver.  As our family was leaving the court after sentencing, some of my family yelled stupid crap at the defendants family...lunged at them and “had” to be held back.  They turned a really awful moment into a hillbilly festival...

That's a good question. I'm not sure he heard him say it. If he did, he ignoerd it. And yes- he is contining to take calls from the jail. Really frequent ones. So disturbing to me that I'm up at 2:30 in the morning ready to blong about them separately. UGH.

Sorry to hear about your family. The daughter of SS22's drunk driving victim shows up at all of his hearings just to stare him down.

Judge and prosecutor that ss is in jail.. that his own siblings make it out like him being sentenced to jail is inhumane... this is what happens when parents don’t discipline their kids so they’re instilled with the concept of consequences for your actions and taking responsibility, instead we blame the judge and threaten to harm her...

ss and his siblings seem like a bunch of absolute ignorant idiots

sodonewithpunk's picture

Oh now come on- let's be fair- it's NOT just the Judge and the DA's fault...it's also the victims, wittnesses, the public defender, and mommy and daddy's divorce. Wink

maybe SS isn’t that bad.  It’s really not his fault that people just don’t give him money and drugs.  Most likely he is to good to go to jail.  But on the bright side, He will get 6 to 12 years with a great group of sweet dedicated people who are turning there life around. And around and around

I am so sorry you have had to go through this and I really do feel for your SO's mother too.

As to the kids, it is probably a matter of time before their ignorant, arrogant entitlement land the other two prime specimens in jail too. What a shocker in their reactions...
I suspect that what you went through with SS is the road my exSD is on. It's a matter of time before that girl is off to prison and she won't know why it happened except it isn't her fault.

I certainly see why you are fed up with this punk, but how do you tolerate your DH's ostrich impression?  With all this kid has done, he continues to enable it by standing up there and defending what a good and empathetic person he is.  I'd have a hard time maintaining any respect for him.

I get unconditional love, but enabling, nope - don't get it. He could just as easily have said, "Son, I love you, and I'm sorry you are going to prison, but you are going because of your own choices," instead of all this rescue stuff he does. No wonder all of his kids have no empathy.

I struggle weith it. I try to come from a place of compassion, But I don't respect the way he parents.

I couldn't do it. I'd have no respect for him.  I would have total compassion for him grieving and being sad because his son is a felon, but not with his enabling and coddling.
