It's a good thing you have a stepson

DH: [surprised about something regarding his own kid, that he didn't know, but is something he has in common with his child, and told to DH in passing by DS who assumed that DH knew, and DS walked away without realizing the impact of his statement]

Me: Good thing you have a stepson. (my DS)

DH: ??

Me: Otherwise you'd know nothing about your children.

(I know, I know. Bite your tongue. Walk away. Guess that little sarcastic voice in my head won out that time. And frankly this same scenario, minus my comments, has happened a number of times.)

Sometimes I think the things that these dads "know" about their kids is entirely made up in their heads or based on old information when the kid was super young.

I barely know SD12 but I've been perceptive enough to tell my husband tons of obvious things about her that he didn't bother to pay attention to.

Yes, my DH does this all the time! It's so weird, like he doesn't have actually know the kid at all.

My SO often acts like he doesn't know his own daughter. All of her ridiculous antics "surprise" him. Obvious things that she does to be rude or rebellious usually have to be pointed out to him. It's really irritating that these dads love wearing their rose colored glasses as much as they do!
