Someone Help Me...potty training woes

IAmALady77's picture

I don't think shes ready. SD is 2 1/2 and everything I've read says you shouldn't try to potty train if they haven't reached certain developmental stages. BM has been putting her on the potty every hour by the hour so of course shes bound to go a couple times in the potty but she doesn't understand the point. All she knows is that music plays and she gets a treat.

I've had her in panties all day hoping that if she had an accident it would be uncomfortable and she would want to go on the potty. NOPE. She doesnt let us know when she has to go. Sitting in wet panties does not phase her at all, not even a little bit. She doesnt even tell us that shes had an accident and she doesnt do anything special when shes going, its like shes completely oblivious.

Tips? Thoughts? i am at a loss here and now she is crying because I told her to take her wet panties off. I'm sorry but that just grosses me the heck out, I dont understand why BM is soooo gungho about potty training her right now and gets mad if we're not doing it her way but I really dont think putting her on there every hour is teaching her anything. Its just me and SD till 6pm today so please someone help me before I rip my hair out!

It's a common method. Some kids, like this one apparently, don't mind wearing their accidents, they aren't sensitive to it but of course they shouldn't. It makes potty training harder when they don't mind the feel of wet or poop.

PT can be a real pain, it's much easier for the adult to deal with diapers but persevere, hopefully this will not take too long. You might consider leaving her in the care of her mother if father is not around and let momma deal with it.

I just think we should wait a few months. And BM is working and this is our CO'd time. I don't mind taking care of SD only when I'm being forced to do something that clearly is not working.

I agree... Once they are ready it isn't as difficult. However... It wouldn't hurt to continue potty time every hour for a brief few minutes. If nothing happens move on.

I've potty trained 4 kids... They were all different!

Hang in there!

She wants to put her back in her state funded daycare on the days she has her and has to "work" and apparently they have to be pottytrained. IDK you're right. I'm just gonna take her in the baby pool since its so hot out lol she can pee in her swinsuit all she wants.
