How did you come up with your steptalk user name?

dragonfly5's picture

It is Friday and the skids are coming tonight...YIPEE! Sad

As I was reading your blogs this morning. I became intrigued by some of your user names. How and why did you choose it?

I choose mine because I like dragonfly's they are scary to look at but yet beautiful. Most people are afraid of them.

They eat misquotes..little pest Smile I call this managing my home and making sure the little pest don't swallow me and my DH.

And there a 5 of us. Dh, myself, my biod and his two.... Dragonfly5

I chose mine because at times I've felt invisible. You know, I'm JUST the stepmom. In other words, nobody. The food appears on the table all by itself!

it was easy to remember haha plus, I have random thoughts and feelings about this whole step mom thing

Mine is an old nick name.

I used to work for a car dealership in my early twenties. I also used to repair ATM machines for an on call company during after bank hour times (holidays, nights weekends) So one night I got called out to some machine that I had never been to before. I was not familiar with the area at all as it was about an hour away.

So I get there and the machine was inside a Walmart. The Walmart was at the end of a big plaza with a grocery store and a bunch of other little stores. So when I pulled in and I went straight to the back of the parking lot so I could wiz through. Well, the lighting was bad back there and I wizzed through all right. I ran right over the top of one of those medians with the concrete curb, grass in the middle and then another concrete curb at probably about 30 miles an hour. Swear to God I never even saw it, I honestly had no idea what I had hit after I did it.

Since I had a low profile sports car, I ended up flattening all four of my tires, so had to leave the car there and have my DH (now Ex) come and pick me up. So that Monday morning, I had the dealership that I worked for go pick up my car with the rollback. When the rollback driver came back with it, he came in my office and was like "Jesus, what the hell happened to your car?" When I told him what happened he was said "Yee Haw, Daisy Duke!" I was forever known at that job as "Daisy" after that. lol

That was like 20 years ago though, so highly doubt anyone other than me would remember that, so that is why I thought it "safe" to use that name here. Wink

Great, story! You made me laugh outloud...I have a "small" speeding problem as well.

DaizyDuke's picture

LOL, one of the most embarrassing parts was that after I rolled the car into a parking spot before all of the tires went completely flat, I went into the stupid Walmart to fix the dumb ass machine which happened to be right next to the Customer Service desk. While I was there, I heard this man walk in and tell the Customer Service girl that "someone should probably call the cops, because there was a car out in the parking lot with 4 flat tires" so I had to go over and tell them that it was my car and everything was OK... they all looked at me like I had 12 heads. Embarrassing!

clydella's picture

My DH likes to call himself "Crazy Clyde" as his alter ego, and he started calling me "Clydella", and it just stuck. Plus I know it bugs SD, she told him I wish you would have given me that nickname.

DaizyDuke's picture

OMG! I just read a "who dunnit" book where the killer used the belladonna to render his victims helpless. In the book they said that in too high a dose, it can also kill??? your SD IS Satan... eke!

Drac0's picture

This is gonna sound weird but "Draco" is actually short for another user handle I used on a forum board dedicated to vampires and Horror role-playing games.

ETA: My name is spoken in the language of Mordor, a language I will not utter here.

3familiesIn1's picture

We are not blended, its like we are 3 families all living in commune in the same house.

1. DH and I - the married couple
2. DH and his kids
3. ME and my kids

3 families in 1

misslady's picture

from one of my favorite movies. STEPBROTHERS...the part where they are interviewing the guys and Dale goes "hello, miss lady". a step brothers quote for a step-parent venting website! Wink ...I wonder if anyone saw the movie and totally thought "omg thats me!" my husband and SS are like the Dale and Brennan. Gets frustrating sometimes.

AliceP's picture

Ive used the name Alice Pleasance since the beginning of the internet....it's no where near my real name.

QueenBeau's picture

BM/SD/MIL/etc are all at a loss because now I am the Queen Bee of DH's life & our home. BM thought she could still make decisions for our home, she found out quickly she can't. I am also queen of my own life, which I let BM know by refusing to communicate with her any longer.

BM especially thought she had the power. Now she realizes I am queen & she can bow down.

Shaman29's picture

I probably should have chosen Cassandra rather than Shaman, but I'm the person everyone comes to for advice.

Unfortunately most people do not follow it and then come back and tell me they should have listened to me.

Kes's picture

I chose Kes because she was one of my favourite characters from Star Trek - of which I am a big fan. I was amazed no-one had it already - I was lucky - I have since used it on several other forums.

Mine's pretty self explanatory! Biggrin I was at that stage when I finally found ST... PLus, I always loved the show and am a short Italian with dark hair like the main character!

princessmofo's picture

Avril Lavigne reference from "Girlfriend". "And Hell yeah, I'm the motherf*cking Princess." Smile

hismineandours's picture

Well, I think mine is self explanatory. We are a his, mine, and ours family. Although I try desperately to forget about the his part.

wicked_by_proxy's picture

wicked_by_proxy: The ability to do something wicked without actually physically doing it...my SS, for the last 3 years, says that I: ignore him, verbally attack him, don't respond to his (non-existent) texts, that I make him feel uncomfortable and cries to DH that I say hateful things.

He is 29.

I accomplished all this without doing one single thing to him....I had no idea I had all this fabulous power!!! Go Me!!!!!

DarkStar's picture

Mine is one of my favorite Grateful Dead songs.

I saw them perform in Chicago in 95 the summer before Jerry died. Dang, I'm getting old!

It is great to read all of these! Thank you everyone who has responded and I will continue to read these as they are posted.

You all are the best!!

Last-Wife's picture

I once said to Loca Grande, "I may not have been his first wife, but I will be his LAST WIFE."

She did not like that too much... Smile

Other names I use-
Loghead- my DH is sometimes clueless, like wood for brains, and has a part time job constructing log cabins
Princess 21- my SD. I got started on steptalk about the time she was at the height of her high school drama.
PITA 19- My oldest SS is my Pain in the A$$. Opinion of him hasn't changed in all my time on Steptalk...
Lazy Boye 17- youngest SS used to think he was black, and was lazy, worthless bum. Age has done him well, but the name sticks
Gibby 12- our BS; named at the time for his similarities to Gibby, a character on a Nickelodeon show. he got tall and lost 15 pounds. No similarities now...
Loca Grande- BM is a big, fat crazy cow
Gullible- her husband of nearly 15 years must be gullible to believe all her lies. He also must be a saint for putting up with her...

EyesOfaStranger's picture

"Eyes of a Stranger"-- my fav Queensryche song.. Just LOVE that band, and happened to be listening to the song when I made my account. Blum 3
This is a great thread!!!! Some names I've really wondered about. Especially BunnyBread-- lol!
FormerAA, I didn't think you were a retired alcoholic- Ha. You had explained your name a long while ago and I always think to myself "hmmmm,,, I wonder how many newbies think she used to be an alchie?!" Wink

emotionaly beat up's picture

Because at the time I found this site I had just banned my husbands daughter from my home and life. I felt emotionally beaten to a pulp at the time. Now I'd probably choose, beat the bastards at their own game Smile

notmyfirstrodeo's picture

Mine comes from my many years of step history. I married my first husband at 19. He was much older and had two sons (6 and 2) from two different mothers. I spent 13 years dealing with those BMs and many court battles. When we divorced, I met my current husband who had two daughters (14 and 2) from two different mothers. BM2 is the worst I've ever seen and she obviously thinks I'm an idiot. I signed up here to deal with her antics. And for those of you on your first round, yes I am obviously a masochist!!!!!

Patsy's picture

Mine is pretty much self explanatory. I always felt like people could make me out to be the patsy or the fall guy. Then I woke up and told everyone to Eff off LOL. I said "I'm not going to be your Patsy anymore!" in a heated argument with my husband about his parenting skills or the lack of skills at that time!
