part 4 of 4 finished Dads estate

Booboobear's picture

Hello steptalkers! I just wanted to update you on finishing out the 4th property of our Dads Alaska estate.(3 daughters)

It was tons of work and two years foreclosing for non payment, but finally got that last house on an escrow payment plan at the bank with the idiot neighbor.

The idiot neighbor,  who got the delinquent buyer of my dads owner financed house to quick claim it to him, fought us to try to buy it from us for $125,000. instead of the $176,000. that is owed. (when its worth $340,000. and we want the house back.)

I told the attorney that people who rescue people who financially abuse people's parents do not get discounts on houses.

and we fought back with the law and he had no choice but to pay the last 3 years of unpaid house payments, unpaid taxes, attorneys fees, and get set up with escrow payments at the bank with us 3 daughters as beneficiaries getting direct deposits into our bank accounts 1/3 each.

so its like $460. monthly to each daughter for the next 13 years, and if he defaults, we are taking the house back with foreclosure.

and if you remember, there were 3 other Alaska properties, and each one is now owned separately by one of us 3 daughters.

so we each got an Alaskan property, 4% of dads IRA,  a $12,600. deposit from the caught up house payments and  a $460.deposit each month for the next 13 years.

not too bad for a couple of Alaskan gals who almost got nothing for an inheritance.

also, I had a beautiful jade green granite headstone made for Dad with a cowboy riding a horse in front of mountains,  and Im bringing it to Alaska next week,  and having it installed on grandpas (Dad's Dad) grave, Dad always liked the mountains inscribed on his dads stone.  And Im bringing a Bolo Tie with a bucking horse in leu of flowers, because my Dad always wanted to be a cowboy.

(It was the best I could make out of a situation for a memorial for the daughters to grieve and visit, despite Dads wife having a cremation, funeral  and burial near  the Texas/Mexico boarder at the same time as my sisters husbands funeral, ( my dad was going to go with me on the plane, but "fell off the roof" the next week).  Dads wife left no time for us to come to his funeral after burying BIL in Alaska, and gave us no ashes or sentimental belongings or childhood photos. she was our age, and moved him from Alaska to New Mexico and hung the phone up on us when we called him.  Dads real grave is so far away from us, and we probably wont ever be in the area to visit it.)

Thats why I had a jade granite cowboy memorial stone made with his name, to have in Alaska.

I've wondered how things turned out for you & your sisters.  The headstone sounds perfect.

For awhile there it certainly seemed as if your Dad's "first family" was going to be completely shut out.  I know we only heard your side of the story, but holey-toledo that wife of his is a piece of work.  Trust in karma, I guess to level things --- I know I would not have been as civil as you've been.

Glad you all hung in there & fought for a bit of your heritage.  Hope everything settles down for you now.  Kudos

While my condolences go out to you for the loss of your father, I'm so glad to hear you and your sisters were able to pull out a victory or two in all this!

who faked a will or claimed it didn’t exist. You or your sisters found it and it mentioned that your stepmum was aware of it as i think she signed a prenup from memory and was told off in court by the judge??

i have vague memories of that from like a year or so ago...

The headstone sounds very nice.
If your dad was a Veteran you may be able to place a marker(free from the VA) at his site.

I hope my sisters and I get somewhere with our Dad's estate soon. Thanks for the pm the other week.  I just saw your message.
Take care.
