Common sense
GRRRR>....either you're born with it or your not. Just a vent. Co-worker. I swear she has ZERO common sense. If it's not all laid out in perfect instruction, or in a book she cannot apply logic, creative thinking or think her way out of a paper box.
The other reason is because anytime an 'unusual' request comes in- she goes back forth asking so many questions I end up doing it-so she never gains experience and the boss wants it done.
I received the exact same request last week- didn't ask ONE question of the tester and completed it in 5 mins. She has now gone back and forth w/us ALL day questioning how to do it-even when we spelled it out she questions why...or that the request is written wrong or confusing. It's NOT confusing if you use common damn sense OMG!!! It's pretty effing easy to figure out.
Not to mention-she's one that always leaves work for me to do-takes every Fri/Mon which are our busiest days so I have to do the work-literally 70-80pct falls on me in the year. Takes days off, leaves early, gets in late, works from home on CRITICAL days like that last two- and wants to waste our time asking questions that if she were IN the office we could explain in 2 mins and try to work on the firedrill crap we're working with right now. She's more in a protected age, older, 30plus years....one foot out the door- so doesn't give a damn that her slack creates more work for everyone else. I do not know how she's still employed, seriously.

I’m 58 years old, work in the software industry, and can think circles around millennials.
So can I. I'm 52.

Kind of reminds me of my supervisor, whom I love (in only one way, though). She is very reliable and a great supervisor. But, she will NOT ever just use her authority and make decisions on her own. Every little thing I come to her with, she has to run it by the director. So I have to wait to get answers ALL the time. You're the supervisor, I'm sure you can make some decisions by yourself!!
This coworker of yours sounds awful. She needs her work from home privileges revoked. We have a couple like that. A director of another program who would work from home on Fridays when the psychiatrist was present and working at our facility. He'd need questions answered, and she was no way to be found! He quit because of the lack of support, and he was the best one we've had.
I had a coworker like that.
I had a coworker like that. She was lazy and manipulative. They have common sense, but they don't want to do the work. They're smarter than all of us, they get paid to do nil.

That's the thing- for the longest time it's been this way. She asks questions or doesn't know how to so she doesn't have to do the work. In acting 'dumb' she gets me to do the work. This time I insisted she do it and it took arguing all flipping day....you're right- I think she assumes if I pester enough next time she will just do it instead.
Here's the problem- I had WFH before she even came here- my boss never does it-he hates that we have WFH honestly...but it's because she always takes advantage or pulls crap like this- wfh on critical days. It's only her/I my boss- so if she keeps messing up we will BOTH pay the price and have WFH days revoked.
Give me a millenial all day over this honestly.
