Special "Fusion" Reading Program --- Anyone else heard of this?

Auteur's picture

For children who are 4-5 years behind in reading skills. VD (SD13) is in the 7th grade and is reading at a 2nd grade level. She's in special ed programs, not because she's "challenged" but because the Behemoth has raised her on instant gratification. If it seems challenging, distasteful or downright "HARD" just don't do it. Someone ELSE will come along and do the hard work FOR you, is the MOTTO.

All classwork/homework is optional. . .if grades sink too low from not handing in assignments b/c Princess couldn't be bothered, then the Behemoth steps in and does it for her (nice to know that the Behemoth can do 6th and 7th grade special ed homework). Currently her core subject average is a 51% (65 is the pass/fail cut off in NYS)

So looking at the "fine print" of the letter it says that students in this program are expected to progress 1 1/2 to 2 years of reading skills in a one year time period.

Which still involves that nasty four lettered word "W-O-R-K" So taking best case scenario (which is not likely to happen), VD should be catching up in about 2 1/2 years from now. Which puts her in the 10th grade arena. Which puts her in the age bracket of 16ish. Which we all know is HELL and HORMONES play into it as a major distractor. SOOOOO if VD REFUSES to focus on her schoolwork and the Behemoth let's her get away with it at just-turned 13 (and it's been this way for a VEEEERRRRRYYYY long time; namely eight years), what are the odds that VD will suddenly get up to speed academically by age 16??

My guess is that IF she completes high school, she'll be about age 20 by then. (shakes head)

Or it could just out like my SD's boyfriend, who's going to be graduating this year from a public high school also in NYS, with a 4th grade reading level.... I'm still not sure how that works.

Is he in special ed?

If not, how did he manage to pass the regents?

He wouldn't be able to pass the GED exam with a reading level that low.

Somehow, someway, someone has gotten this child "exempted" so that he's not actually Required to pass anything that involves reading. It's ridiculous. And sickening that this is my SD's "soulmate"

They used to have a "local" exam in NYS. Now they just dumb down the Regents to probably a 4th grade level so that would explain that.

What are dumb down regents?

A kid with a 4th grade reading level will not get a passing score on the English, American History, foreign language or any of the science regents.
