O/T Thanksgiving Day Preparations

Auteur's picture

I will start out by saying that I ALWAYS cook since I've been celebrating Thanksgiving (the last 9 years or so)

I found out that not only will Awesomeson and his GF be at my house, that my married biodaughter "Peg" and her hubby will be there too.

Hopefully GG can keep his big trap shut and not get into ranting and raving on his personal believes but I digress.

I've been using up most of the leftovers (vacuum sealed)these past few days to clear out the french door frig's freezer and my very large deep freezer before the big day.

The 18 lb frozen turkey is brining and tomorrow I"m taking off to go to the dentist in town (where all the good shopping is at)

How about you?

The same as we do every year, we will be celebrating with DH's family at SIL's house. As always, we will take dessert & sodas & my part will be done.

This Thanksgiving (as well as every other Thanksgiving & holiday celebration) I am thankful for a truly southern MIL & SIL who enjoy cooking like nobody's business. I'm also thankful they're good at it. Amen. Smile

My son and SS17 are supposed to be coming. I know my son will. SS flaked on visitation last weekend without so much as a call so....we will see on that one!

DH makes his DELICIOUS smoked turkey. I take care of the rest.

In my brining pot I put 1 lb kosher salt, 1 lb brown sugar, some dijon mustard maybe a 1/4 cup and some dried ginger that I had dried from a hand of it.

Stir with about six quarts of water, add turkey, add more water to cover, gently stir

tomorrow i will be finishing up the shopping and will be making pumpkin cheesecake, cranberry sauce (i don't like it, special for my uncle), and whatever else i can do the day before....

the morning of tday i will be asking dh when he is taking piss pants home (i guess it's going to be more like IF he is) so i can disinfect guest bath....

i will spend the rest of tday getting everything together and pretty and hope everyone shows up, have already had a few dings in my planned day, but have decided to quit crying about it.... i will have fun regardless..... unless piss pants is here, then i will have to pop a pill, have a stiff one and hope for the best!!

wishing everyone a happy and SAFE holiday!!!!

still have ags ~ but sd spends tons of time at mils, so i only have to see that liar about 1-2 times a week and she is gone this week, so none of her crap on tday...... and piss pants (almost 12) still finds it amusing to piss in the bed and remove the matress liner so it can really sink in....

"No skids either for this Holiday or for Christmas!!!!"

SUPER jealous...

We always go to Dh's family, 8 hour drive away....
He has 6 sisters and only a couple of them will be there this year, and the parents. It's a big ordeal usually, lots if kids and grandkids. I help with a few side dishes and usually bring some crafts to do with the kids.
This will be the first year without SD18, as she now prefers the company of her bf's parents. Fine by me. Last year she told all dh's sisters how her and dad get along sooo well if it wasn't for me and DD. Her and DH drove there first because I had to work.....the moment I showed up she threw this weird fit with DH, and ran off, proving to the family that it was all good until....me. One of the sisters fully bought that and has been vibing me ever since, leaving me out of the sisterhood email loops that I was a part of.
Sorry about the whine....it'll be interesting this year, different.
I love to cook, but the big American Turkey Day isn't where I shine Smile
