Happy Hump Day, STalkers? Why do they call it Hump Day when most people get laid on the weekend? Dirol

I don't know about you, but I'm having the Work Week from HE!!. I drive home thinking about work. I cook dinner thinking about work. I lie in bed, trying to sleep, thinking about work. I DREAM about work. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh!!!!!!!

If only there was a dial in my head to go from Work Mode into Home Mode into Sleep Mode (and a much needed Exercise Mode...).

How do you wind down, de-stress, and take your mind off of work? Things I do:

* jigsaw puzzles
* word puzzles
* soothing music (light classical, Anne Murray, John Denver, Billy Joel, Garth Brooks)
* read a book
* watch cartoons
* drink some wine/whiskey/Kahlua & milk
* light stretching
* tighten up my muscles (in groups: calves, thighs, glutes, abs, hands, arms, shoulders/back), then relax them.

My mind is currently on work because I go on vacation in 3 - count 'em 3 - days, so I'm frantically trying to wrap up projects before I go, in addition to 2 doctors appointments, a vet appointment, and a mechanic appoint for oil change and tire rotation. All in addition to packing, cleaning, etc.

Generally, though, to unwind:

- Getting laid
- ASMR videos on YouTube
- Guided imagery audio
- Long drives with loud music
- Gym time
- Aimless shopping
- Massage or hair cut
- Long, hot bath

Sorry deary. This is the first significant (greater than 2 days in a row) amount of time that I have taken off work in over a year. Switching jobs meant that I had to rebuild my vacation bank, so I'm running on fumes. DH is about to lose his mind, too, so this trip is super necessary.

I'll drink a cocktail for you!

Hon, I understand! My sister hasn't had a vacation in 3 years (cancer/surgeries). All of my "vacations" have been working vacations. I really need a long weekend off with nothing to do but relax and not feel like I should be doing something (which is what I do if I try to stay home and do nothing!).

Have a BIG cocktail for me, please!!

I don’t think I will ever get laid again lol! Or root as they say in Aus or shag as they say in my home country the uk! I am curious if my vagina might be tighter after my hysterectomy though lol!! Is that a sad thought haha? I will be like a virgin all over again I guess. I’m 3 weeks post op and decided to have a few wines tonight lol x. I can’t do much and works far from my mind at the moment I am so distracted not being able to go out argghh!!

I’ve binged on Netflix though as I miss Work and I love coronation street ( uk soap). Watching my 600lb life on Foxtel has become compulsive viewing also ! As has designated survivor haha! But mainly procrastinating as I’m doing a masters and have a big assignment I can’t be arsed writing as my brain won’t switch off lol x

You need a Rabbit or a Thunderstick. I recommend the Thunderstick until you're cleared for... insertion. }:)

Aniki, I am curious...what drives these pervading thoughts of work? Is it worry? Is it a need to keep thinking about it so as to resolve methods and outcomes of work? Sometimes I need a sounding board to release some work thoughts and sometimes I just need more time for work to bring it to a good stopping place. If something emotional is bothering me, I give myself a directive to stop thinking about it until the next morning.

I own a business and work from a home office. I knew going into this that there must be a separation of work from my home life, so I went overboard to do that but ultimately it worked. I only work during scheduled hours. I treat my office like it is not right here with me, as in I wouldn't drive across town to update a patient file so I don't go into my office to do it just because it is convenient. I just make notes and bring them with me into the office in the morning.

I schedule home life. Silly, but I needed to do it, so I schedule tasks, periods of cleaning or laundry, trips into town for errands on my calendar. This really keeps it all from blending, as in no, I do not do laundry between patients. This does help keep my focus on what is happening now and less on what happened during work. If I feel the need to keep something from work in my head, then I take an hour and do it.

I practice mindfulness. Sounds woo woo but it actually helps connect you better to what is happening in the "right now" and makes you more cognizant of the present....very rewarding for me in all aspects of my life...

Veritas, it's not just work. While I'm at work, in the back of my mind, I'm thinking about what I need to do AFTER work. Today, tomorrow, AND over the weekend. When I'm at home, I'm thinking about what I need to do at the old house, what I need to do at the new house, and what I need to do at work. When I'm working on the old house, I'm thinking about what needs to be done at the new house. When I'm at the new house, I'm thinking of what I need to do at the old house. And work is ALWAYS in there, somewhere.

My problem is that my mind NEVER SHUTS OFF. I have OCD and that includes OCD thoughts. Did you see Men In Black? Did you see the part where Will Smith accidently releases that ball that goes flying around every-which-way, smashing into things and wreaking havoc? That ball is the equivalent of one thought in my head. Now multiply that by, oh, 8537. That's my mind Every.Single.Day. There is NO off switch. It's constantly running at high speed. The hamsters in my head have all snorted booger sugar and the wheels are smoking while they spin.

I take meds and they help somewhat, but not much. The only thing that ever gets my mind to slow down is alcohol. :?

I had a nightmare about this HUGE project I'm working on at work... For like three nights in a row... UGH!

To relax I:
-Exercise (I condensed this Smile )
-Play with the fur babies
-VIDEO GAMES
-Force DH to cuddle me for hours on end while I binge watch something...
-Reorganize
-Cook
-Plan vacations I can't afford...
-Paint/draw/animate s***
-shoot things (targets, I'm not crazy, promise. Just practicing for when I finally convince DH to go hunting out west with me for elk... I LOVE elk meat... LMAO)

I basically just have a long list... During the Summer I do water based things up the wazoo! Yay for having a boating license!!!

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Shooting things... I could get into that. Pretend the target is BioHo's arse...

Aniki-Moderator's picture

I thought so. I want to do it in a darker color. I'm not a fan of white or off-white blankets/afghans/throws.

DPW's picture

Crosswords
Board games
Music
Dancing like no one is watching.... but SO is... and laughing.... lol
Cooking

Board games are fun!! Unless you're playing with my BIL - he's a d!ck. It's hard to find people to play.

How do I cope:

Drink bottle of wine
Run 3 miles all while watching hot young guys face non existent life issues
Take a nice long shower thinking about those hot young guys
Drink another bottle of wine
Turn on TV and watch TRASH!!!
Drink another bottle of wine
Try to read a book but get distracted by thinking about hot young guys on show....

Veritas's picture

Hell I'm impressed with running 3 miles after drinking a bottle of wine LMAO!

advice.only2's picture

Lol Vertias okay maybe I exaggerate, it's not exactly three miles, it depends on how much I stumble around on the treadmill until I fall off.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

If you're drunk, you'll be more flexible and won't stiffen up and hurt yourself as much... LOL

Coloring!! I forgot about coloring!! I have the big$ss crayon caddy with 150+ crayons. AND some colored pencils. I have some cool adult coloring books! Biggrin

Blue Moon's picture

I actually got lucky last night Dirol

To relax I like to:
- listen and/or dance to music
- spend some time on my «adult» relaxing coloring book
- watch Netflix
- take a hot bath with candle light
- when I come back from my weekly yoga class or from the gym, I'm always relaxed

ProbablyAlreadyInsane's picture

ANIKI! You can come over and we'll have a yoga party!!! Or we can all go to the beach and do beach yoga Dirol

Wednesday is the hump you have to get over on your way to next weekend
You could take your mind off work by thinking mean and nasty thoughts about bm(lol this is v. easy for me as I have 2)
I also think about meals i like my hubs to cook
Where I want to go for date night
Things my best friend sends me(we are trying to watch a documentary per week then discuss it)
What makes me happy to throw away(golden uterus supporter
mil comes to mind lol...). In the process of minimizing.
The home i plan to retire in
Building a tiny house(keeps me motivated)
Jokes I read online

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Cara, I'd rather think about work than BioHo!!

Another part of my mind is always thinking about recipes and cooking.

Let's face it. My brain needs toggles switches!

Myss.Tique D'Off's picture

I run and cook for escape therapy. Really gets my mind off my troubles.

I have been lucky of late that my two girlfriends have been tag team taking me out for fun days and evenings.
We had a belter of boozer on the weekend!! OMG - we actually sang karaoke!! (I can only image how plastered we were if three "girlie girls" ended up singing the Village People's Macho Man... "Macho, macho man... I'VE GOT TO BE a macho man!!")

DaizyDuke's picture

BS8 thought they were singing "Nacho Man" when he heard that song Biggrin He also called YMCA the "yah may" song.
Oh and for another giggle, when the Donna Jaymes song "Hot Stuff" came on the radio one day, he asked me if she was saying "pasta" lmao

That's been my theme song ever since. "I want some pasta baby this evening, give me some pasta baby tonight." Biggrin Biggrin Blum 3

Myss.Tique D'Off's picture

LOL!! BS8 does listen to good music though! Smile

(BTW Thank you DaizyDuke, for the strange looks I got at home for singing "Nacho Nacho Dog" to my Schnauzer.)

I know that feeling with work - there are times I wish I could reach into my head and just yank that yakking voice out!

To relax..

- drink beer
- go for bike rides
- read
- binge watch Netflix (almost finished The Killing)
- cook
- play with my cat
- viber my family
- invent ways to steal mangoes from my neighbours tree (they've moved out but I'm still paranoid about someone seeing me)
- drink more beer
