OT - Thirsty Thursday

Aniki-Moderator's picture

With Halloween right around the corner (woo hoo!), it's the beginning of the holiday season. Holiday get-togethers, dinners, parties... and, IMO, it's always fun to have a big bowl of punch. My Mom had the most beautiful punch set (Waterford crystal!!) and it was always a treat to see that punch bowl filled with something delicious. My parents (retired Air Force) had been stationed in Spain for a number of years and Sangria became the family favorite. When I was 8, I had a birthday party and Mom filled that gorgeous bowl with punch. I was thrilled!!

Do you have any favorite punch recipes? Both non-alcoholic and alcoholic? For many years, we've made sherbet punch and it's always been popular.

Lime Sherbet Punch

1 gallon lime sherbet
2-46oz cans pineapple juice, chilled
3 liters ginger ale, chilled

Scoop the sherbet into a large punch bowl.
Add pineapple juice and ginger ale.
Stir until sherbet is partially melted.
Serve immediately.
Yield: 40 servings (8 quarts)
NOTE: We have also made this with raspberry sherbet.

When I make punch with alcohol, I always make Bajan Rum Punch. This is an old classic with a rhyme to tell you how to make it.
One of Sour, Two of Sweet, Three of Strong, Four of Weak

What ingredients you choose for the sour, sweet, and weak are all up to you. The Strong, of course, is rum. My choice of ingredients make a lethal, but tasty punch. No, I will NOT share the ingredients I use. I won't even tell my sister. }:)

That sounds SO good and is probably very pretty to look at!

This is one I want to try- it's not punch, but you make it in the crock pot. In the pic it's light orange, served in a halloween mug, and they float a marshmallow ghost on top. It just looks so cute! Probably looks better than it tastes...

½ gallon whole milk
1 (11-oz.) bag white chip morsels
2 cups candy corn
Whipped cream, marshmallows or ghost peeps for serving

"In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine the white chocolate and heavy whipping cream and whisk until white chocolate melts and mixture is smooth. Add the half and half and the candy corn half and half. Stir until heated all the way through. Pour into mugs and top with marshmallows or whipped cream…or both"

I agree, I bet it’s cute!

I just can’t with the cow's milk, white chocolate, or candy corn. That’s a trifecta of blech for me. :O

White chocolate is an abomination. It's what is left after the life has been SUCKED out of real chocolate. Biggrin

This sounds good!!! Except for my dislike of pineapples! lol. Everyone else loves them though so it may have to be made! Thanks aniki!

Sounds flawless. I'll just have to like 1/8 the recipe. Apparently living in the middle of nowhere in a small town BM and DH grew up in means no friends... And unless I'm gonna invite BM's family that keeps trying to idk what to call it even, feels adopting ish and vent to me about her... I don't have members for a party. Lol. Party of one Dirol Maybe I should make the whole thing...

If you like sherbet (and I do!!), you can make yourself a tasty solo treat.

Pour a little Rose's Grenadine in the bottom of a tall glass.
Add 3-4 scoops of sherbet, any flavor (except pineapple LOL)
Fill the glass with 7-Up.
Drizzle some Rose's Lime Juice on top.
DO NOT STIR!!!
Stick in a straw and drink.

I usually make red Sangria for my holiday parties or when the fam all comes over. I made this for our Oktoberfest party and it is easy and amazing...All alcohol so it sneaks up on you. Now I will make both!

German Strawberry Wine Punch (Erdbeerbowle) made with fresh strawberries plus white, red, and sparkling wine.

Ingredients
• 2 pounds fresh strawberries hulled and cut in half
• 2 tablespoons granulated sugar*
• 1 bottle red or rosé wine750ml ( I use pinot noir)
• 1 bottle white wine 750ml, chilled ( I use reisling)
• 1 brut sparkling wine 750ml, chilled ( inexpensive works fine)
Instructions
1. Place strawberries in a large punch bowl. Sprinkle sugar on strawberries and stir to coat. Let sit for 3 hours for the sugar to soften (or macerate) the strawberries. Or overnight in the refrigerator in a zip bag.
2. Pour red wine over the strawberries.
3. Add white wine and stir.
4. Add sparkling wine and serve.
Recipe Notes
*The amount of sugar you use depends on how sweet you want the punch and the sweetness of the wine(s). Use less sugar if using sweet wines or if a "drier" punch is desired.

****Use whole frozen strawberries as ice cubes in your ice bucket…(no water down taste.) Or add them to the punch bowl to keep it cold.
These were a big hit** I will use this method now to keep my Sangria cold too.

CHEERS!

My Oma made this, but I'm allergic to Strawberries so my mother and I now use frozen raspberries and blackberries. So good!

Robin wants cabana boys. Either to dance on the pole, or to serve us drinks, or to serve us drinks while dancing on the pole.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Yes, robin, RUM! My rum punch might be illegal in some states/countries. Wink

Woman, you can bring that pole, but I won't be pole dancing!!!

Johnnycash, substitute lemonade for the pineapple juice. It's just as tasty!! Smile

Bourbon sour is my favorite holiday drink.

Hubby always makes the sour mix from scratch, so it’s extra fresh and tasty!
