Just had a shocking realization

After reading through so many entries, it seems that the real trouble is raising up DH to be an adult! Dealing with the skids is a piece of cake compared to that task!

So often, the person you hoping will be responsible and act like an adult is DH, much more so than the skids!

And I say this as one of the lucky few whose husband is reasonably mature and fairly supportive! Even then, there is so much stuff where he is just SO CLUELESS! Even when I'm not parenting the skids, I'm doing a LOT of parenting of HIM so he is up for the task!

I remember some old Looney Tunes cartoon where a whacko vulture kept saying, "When do I get to be the baby? I want to be the baby, I want to be the baby!" Some days, boy, can I ever relate to that!!! Smile

But to be fair, these men have been forced into a role that traditionally they have not had to take on before. Mothers have often been the ones who discipline and set limits with the father working outside the home and providing financially for the family. Yes it's true that those roles have been in the process of being re-worked since World War II brought many women into the work place but add the additonal whamy of divorce and these men are clueless.

Good thing strong women with good character are around to knock them into shape.

Had a similar conversation with my mother last night on the drive home from work regarding DH when (GOD FORBID) I wasn't home in time to make dinner for all of us. I told him to just go get something for all of us and I'd be home in an hour.

He was lost, "well, where should I go? what should I get? what does everyone want?"
OMG!!!! Figure something out on your own without my input/consultation PLEASSSSSE...it's not rocket science.

I couldn't figure out what he possibly did when I wasn't there to hold his hand every step of the way....
