OT - Offensive advertising

ESMOD's picture

So, there I was minding my own business and flipping through my new copy of Glamour magazine. Now, I KNOW that a lot of the models are really young and all. I know the photo shopping and the bad body image stuff too. I mean, I can take a LOT of stuff with a grain of salt... BUT, I turned the page and there is an ad for Viva Glam MAC cosmetics with Ariana Grande. The former disney starlet who is diminutive with the big voice. She tries to project a pretty adult image and all, but her ad was over the top offensive to me.

It looked literally like kiddie porn. She is dressed in a pink shirt with one leg propped up in the air while she holds her shirt over her hooha surrounded by dollhouse toys. It gave me the serious creeps. She is so small and child-like in her stature. She is playing with children's toys FFS.

Maybe I am just getting too fuddy duddy? (using those words probably proves it). But the ad goes beyond bad taste for me.

I don't mind the "oh, I forgot my pants" walking the pink carpet outfit so much. It's just that spread with her toys that makes me really want to turn the page. I have some boots a little like that myself...lol

Yeah, I know the audience for the magazine is women, I'm a woman, lol.

I just didn't get an alice in wonderland vibe from it. Since she really looks so much younger than her age, it looks for the life of me like a 12 yo girl being photographed by the creeptastic uncle.

Believe me, as a woman, my fantasy in looking young is NOT to look 12. I am aiming just a bit older than that if I were to fantasize.
