Getting through it

Sleepy's picture

So... When things are rough and emotions are running high and you feel like running for the hills, how do you cope? How do you get through the day, hoping tomorrow is better.

Our house is small, finances are tight, there's nowhere to go and I have BSs to take care of. As much as I'd like to, I can't just run away (though I sure want to).

What are your day to day calm down, relax, regroup and don't let the drama get to you strategies. I need some new ones. After reading so many posts, I figure you all have learned a thing or two from experience. Please share.

A loooooong bath. Lights out, candles lit, ears under water to muffle the sounds of little monsters trying to piss you off from the other side of the door.

Lol! Wish I could. I had a very bad tequilla night back in college. I can't even handle the smell of the stuff anymore. Smile

I can't do tequilla either. It makes me cry. But I can do Jager, vodka, or Baileys on ice. Smile

I can crochet one very very long string. Smile That's how far my grandma got in teaching me before she passed away.

I read and that used to be my outlet. Lately though, I can't concentrate on a book. I read the same paragraph over and over and stew.

Yes, I think a new/better hobby that requires me to use my hands would help. I'll have to think of something.

Do you like to craft? I do scrapbooking, make cards, charms, quilting, etc. My grandma tried to teach me how to crochet when I was little. I can make a straight line, but beyond that, it all goes trapezoidal. LOL! Smile

I do like to craft. I was into ceramics before kids. I have a rather small house though and no space for crafts Sad

I do many of the things listed...physical activity, like walking, running, bike riding, Chardonnay, baths, reading, knitting. I also think Netflix is a HUGE way to escape and unwind. I am on a tight budget right now but the $9.55/mo is SO worth it. I will also take a nap if I am really miserable...usually when I wake up whatever was bothering me isn't so front and center.

If I'm not needing to unwind as much as you are trying to get my mind off something I'll clean house. I also have a little list of house projects I'd like to do...sometimes I'll choose one (for instance, painting a room, raking, etc.) and get busy with that. That way I get my mind off things, get tired, and have something to show for my work at the end.

Hang in there...

Sleepy - I cold have typed the same post.

On top of all that, I am dieting, so I can't even have a chocolate fix!

I take a nice long hot bath, light some candles and have a glass of wine. If it's not too cold outside I take the dog for a walk on the beach!
