Of Mice and "Men" (Hurrah for My Two Cats--Not So Much Chef)

My two cats cornered a rodent this morning. This time of year they are very good at spotting mice and hunting them down. This morning was no exception. Ilive out in the boonies and probably about once a month, they find a mouse in the house. The only thing I would say is not so great is my younger cat "presenting" the often still alive prize on top of the bed for me to examine.

In other news, Chef stepped in dog shit. Literally. The neighbour's hapless dog who is cute but barks at us thinking we are intruders on HER property, despite giving her a meaty steak bone here and there tends to crap on my lawn.

I was doing quite a bit of garden cleanup but managed to deftly avoid the doo. Normally I'd just remove it but I was trying to make hay while the sun shines.

Anyway, Chef announces he smells dog shit in the house. He sniffs my overalls. Nothing. He heads STRAIGHT to my boots and sniffs. Nothing. He sniffs a pair of his shoes. Nothing. He sniffs the $50 pair of previously enjoyed Sorels (the ones that actually used to be made in Canada; these ones were vintage) and announces the source of the problem. He tosses the boots outside the house into the gravel driveway and starts spraying Lysol all over. He refuses to actually CLEAN the dog shit off of them saying "throw them away!" Excuse me? I just bought the damn things so I wouldn't hear the endless bitching and moaning in the winter that his boots blew out and his feet are cold and wet.

I went out there with a brush, yes I'm too cheap to "make a point" scrubbed, rinsed and in 10 minutes, clean as a whistle.

Did I mention I love my cats?

Yes I watched intently as he TARGETED me and my shoes. Chef is the "Mary Poppins" of men. Practically Perfect in Every Way (TM)

Too bad you couldn't tell him HE is the one who smells like shit (he's full of it anyway) so HE needs to get thrown out with the trash!

I have all new cabinetry so I haven't seen any chew marks or anything. The back door sits somewhat uneven so it could be an opening to the rodents. My house is FAR from "tight" although it does have quite a bit of insulation.
