No word from BM regarding CPS call

DH & I both took off the last 2 days so we could get some things done. He finally got in touch with his lawyer Tuesday. He told DH to stop paying now. Since he's paid 2 months beyond the 18th birthday & into the school year, there will be no chance of arrears. Yesterday, we took DH's paperwork to the courthouse to file an order to stop support on SS.

The lady from the school district never would return his calls, so while we were out that way, we stopped in & spoke with her. Turns out BM told this woman that they were moving out of the district in the 09-10 school year, so the lady found their information in her "defunct" file. There is no record of any type of schooling for last year at all, & no sign of them ordering tests or anything else for this year. She said it was her fault...that she should've followed up on it, though if someone is moving out of the area, I'm not sure how they would do that. The address they are at now is the one BM told her they were moving from.

She verified that they are truant & said she'll send out truancy letters & follow-up with it. I don't know what "follow up with it" means. She didn't have long to talk, but did get DH's information & told him she'd keep him informed on anything that transpires from it.

I'm hoping that between them & CPS something will happen. SD has completed 7th grade & SS has completed 10th.

No word from BM or SS since we took SS back Sunday. We probably won't hear anything from them until BM doesn't get her CS the day she thinks it should be there or until she gets it & realizes it's only 1/2 of what she's expecting to get.

Of course, if she catches wind of the CPS or school reports between now & then, she'll have DH on the horn in a minute. I already told him that any calls from them should be ignored & let go to voicemail to be saved & any texts from her should be locked into his phone so they don't end up getting deleted by accident. No need to answer a call to be barraged with hate & threats. Let her leave her mark on his phone so he can bring it all before a judge.

DH isn't really talking about it...any of it at this point. He said he really needs to keep it out of his mind for a few days & let the school & CPS work on what they need to work on. Talking to the lady at the school yesterday...I really thought he was going to lose his shit. He was halfway laughing in disbelief & halfway stunned, like he couldn't figure out the appropriate reaction. I really was worried he was going to haul ass to BM's house to confront her.

The nerves that consumed me when I made the CPS call the other day are gone. This has turned out to be more serious & maddening for us than my phone call to CPS could be for anyone.

I don't know what happens from here. I don't know what BM stands to lose, but I hope she loses her ass. She has no morals. She has no dignity. I doubt they'll remove SD from the house, but if they did, it could only help. At least she'd be in school.

Wow. Wow. A friend of mine had a similar situation and while they were not able to get custody, the court ordered that the kid be put in public school.

Even if that's what comes of it, I'm okay with it. That's the priority. SS is dropping out with a 10th grade education & will struggle to get through life. If someone near them can stay on top of things & verify that SD is, in fact, attending school & DH has someone he can contact to stay informed on her grades, that's what she needs.

See! I said on your other post, that I would bet money that she was lying to your DH about home schooling and not sending anything to the district. Shame on the school district for not following up on her "we're moving" declaration. Good grief, anyone can say that! The district has the responbility to get an address and make sure that students are enrolled in a different district. What a diservice to those kids both my BM and the district!
