So sick of court!! Been 13 years...non-stop

Stepmom_C's picture

Most recent case is youngest SD ran off to the "no rules" BM house after living with her dad and me for 13 years (she's 16 now). So we let her go, DH signed temp order and is paying the CS based on the normal calculation. Well it's not enough for this crazy woman. She's proceeding with court for a child she never wanted custody of to force us to pay more CS AND private high school tuition. Is there no end??? He has tried to settle with her but she'd rather spend more on the attorney fees to fight for the tuition and try to make him pay more CS! I don't understand it. It doesn't make sense to me. How can people be so vengeful? I want to understand but the costs over the last 10 years have gotten to me. The legal fees are killing us and we are likely going to have to move out of our house. Any advice?

IT has been almost 10 years and the hemorrhaging of money to legal fees/stupidity has not stopped. Rest assured, twice a year there is some nonsense from my ex. At this point, BD could have completed Harvard without a scholarship. And like your situation he works completely out of spite-doing nothing but to vex me no matter how ridiculous. I hate the court system in my state because they will take 3-4 times before doing anything "real." I mean the man has been caught in several lies, ON THE STAND, and simply been told to "cut it out." So, I feel your pain.
Do you have a parent coordinator system? Room for conciliation services? These are cheaper and have kept me from declaring bankruptcy.
I wish you luck and peave.

No, I don't think we have that in our state Sad I hear you on the Harvard.... and the BM spent not one but BOTH college funds without any consequences!!

The no rules Girhippo raided all 3 college funds before the ink was dry on the CO. No consequences. Always caught lying by omission but continues to rake in massive CS.

She didn't at first for 3 years, (for 2 kids) then we allowed a downward deviation from the calculation. BIG mistake. He's paying the calculation and she's coming after more because he owns a small business. It's so sad!

You can't do that here, it's from the point that you file forward.... We could fight for us to keep custody, but at this point why? The teen doesn't want to be here even though we are the more stable household. It's a lose, lose situation.

I hear the horror stories of fathers who spend 10s of thousands for custody, trying to instill a sense of structure and the skid runs back to the no rules BM all the time. The courts should put an end to this by terminating the no rules parent's parental rights. Zero structure should equal zero custody. But the local gov'ts like their admin fees fed kick backs for highest amount of CS collected. Cash cow.

They will go to no lengths to prove they are on top. It is sad but a silver lining to look forward to is that she is 16 and you only have two more years to go....IF your DH is vigilant with the new CO. Make sure he doesn't sign up for college costs or any other special fees and tuition. Make sure the new court order states 18 or graduation of high school (which ever comes FIRST) This will keep him from paying for two or three senior years.
