Online Search

stepmama04's picture

Hello everyone. I am fairly new to this board. I have gotten most of my questions so far answered by simply reading your posts. My question is this:

If I want to search online for any records regarding BM and her family (tax deed, bankruptcy, etc.) is there a certain way of going about doing that?

I have tried for about an hour now looking at my county's website and other places but have found nothing. I am just wanting to search their information mostly about their home.

Can you help??

Thank you for taking the time to read this!

A lot of local governments, including courts, are putting their public records online, but some smaller areas are still mired in the Paper Age. If your county is one of them, a trip to the courthouse is cheaper than buying the info online. You can get a complete background check for just a few bucks and other records, such as land, tax, etc., are free for the looking up. You just go, tell them what you want, and they tell you where to find it. Your county's assessor might have a website where you could see a photo of the house, plat map, info regarding leins and taxes, etc. Check the website for your local court, too, because sometimes they have online records that can be helpful.

The area where my skids live is a suburb of a major city, so we can access EVERYTHING online from arrests and warrants to tax and real estate transactions, births, marriages, divorces, DUI, court dockets, motor vehicle accidents. It's been amazing for us... we found out when my SS was in a car accident with his stepdad who was speeding, when stepdad beat up BM in front of the kids and was arrested THREE TIMES, when she was in court with one of the skids' other dad, how much BM sold her house for (my hubby's name was on the mortgage and, let me tell you, he paid out and she made out).

Why do you need her personal info?

We had to do a criminal background check ourselves. Like Anne, going to the county clerks office is a great resource. Also I did a simple google search and found some things just by mere chance, and free of charge.

(I'd be careful what you say you find here, however, it is a very controversial subject for some reason.)

But wrong? Nope. In my opinion, if the information wasn't meant to be consumed by the public, then it wouldn't be made available to the public. As long as it's public information, it's fair game. If you have a situation like ours, when getting info about the kids and their life is impossible because BM refuses to interact with us, well, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do and check every available resource just to ease your own mind or prove what you need to prove. Even if it's for no better purpose than appeasing your own curiosity, I don't see anything wrong with it. I don't really have any desire to know anything more about my skids' BM than I already know, so that wouldn't be my reason for scoping her out, but again, if it's public information, then there's nothing wrong with you knowing about it.

I am not interested in searching for info about my husband's ex...not sure why it would be required. But certainly, it is public information, so I guess if someone needs to do this, why not? I just think that there is a better way to spend time, energy and emotion. What would be worth looking for that you wouldn't be able to find out in other ways?

I did research on hubby's x and her bF..
Only because she was lying about EVERYTHING...to try to screw us over.
I did property searches....That's how I found out his wife;s name...it was on a deed along with his...I called her and we compared legal documents between the two divorce hearings..to catch the lies.

I also did vehicle searches..she disposed of a matramonial vehicle..and claimed it was written off after an accident. We suspected she sold it...we had the VIN number and ran it...she had sold it to her BF's sister...so we had proof of that in court.

We also searched a new travel trailer in her yard....to find out if it was hers or her BF's...It was hers bought one day before one of our court appearances where she cried broke & poor...that didn't look good for her either.

We also ran a search on her brand new sports car....and proved it was finaced and not purchased with other matirnomial funds..she couldn't explain where all the money went...another one for us.

Anyone can do a lein search on property....that information is public and is for consumers protection....make a few phone calls in your local area...lawyer, real estate agent, car dealership...they should know.. Smile
