OT - co-worker vent

Shaman29's picture

I was recently promoted. Per my boss, I was allowed to change a few processes in order to streamline/expedite the work.

I swear by all that is holy, I will lose it if one more person comes up to me and complains "Why do I have to do it this way now, it's a lot of work (it's not, it makes it easier on them) and I don't wanna do it!".

I would love to answer them with "Why? Because f**k you. That's why."

I really need to start channeling my Dr. Perry Cox (Scrubs) for my new responsibilities.

Vent over.

Are you now the supervisor of these employees and were you previously doing the job that they do now?

Shaman29's picture

I was always in a supervisory position over them, however the company just made it official.

I did their jobs for over 15 years, so I know my stuff.

Sadly, they all complain, all of the time. Usually I can deal with it, but today has been bad.

They're the type of people who would bitch if you hung them with a new rope.

People dislike change. Until it becomes routine, they will have to think through the new process and they don't like that. You have to ease them into the changes you want to make (don't change a lot at once) or they will hate you.

Shaman29's picture

Oh, yeah. I would never make a bunch of changes just because.

The funny thing is they asked for these changes a while back and always complained about the original process. Once I had the authority to make the changes, I put their ideas to work. Now they're complaining about it.

I think they're trying to make my stylist rich by making me grayer, faster.

"Because I fucking said so, that's why" - oooooh how I'd love to say those words myself.

Shaman29's picture

Exactly...

What is killing me is the fact I implemented their ideas.

Head. Desk. Head. Desk. Head. Desk.

Do you have documentation of that like an old email? If you show them they might go "oh yeah" and be quiet.

Shaman29's picture

Oh yeah. And I reminded them when they complained, that it was their idea.

This isn't the first time they've done this. Our boss was able to get our IT team to make a huge change to our system to streamline another process. They are still doing it the old way, because it's more reliable.

My boss calls it the Goldilocks Syndrome.

Oh look....there's my bottle of Scotch!

Similar to what I say...I am the manager, I welcome your ideas and sometimes they will work, at other times they won't. But when you become a manager you can implement all your ideas and enjoy the complaining that comes with them.

Oh lord me too. I was hired to be a change agent in a highly regulated industry. Everybody excited. Until I made the first simple change (because what the organization was doing was just plain wrong). But we've always done that... and (name of predecessor, an apparent saint that is actually an idiot) wanted it that way. Well, there is a reason that Saint Idiot is no longer here and I am. Got that?

Now I'm trying to reorganize staff lines and functions. Huge organizational change. Needs to happen. I'm starting to get resignations before I even announce the whole plan.

Fine. Don't let the door hit you.
