Step Mother and Step Son Bond

I had satifiying news about my SS, He went out on a date with a girl there was a group of them. He is only 12. anyway it was bumming him out afterward and finally his mom and dad couldnt get him to talk so my husband asked if he would talk to me, my step son said yes because he was getting silly advice from his mom and his dad and his step mom is cool. SO he asked advice about this girl and we talked for about 45 mins about girls and he was able to open up quite a bit which was great!
How ever the x and my husband were right ticked off and upset that he wouldnt talk to them, I feel as long as he is talking to someone and I think what if it was drugs that he was getting into and needed to talk about peer pressure I believe its better to talk to an adult, So the x of course has bugged him about this whole date thing and makes comments like oh can't talk to me but can talk to your step mom.

I feel pretty good that I am more like a family member when it comes to the eyes of the kids.

It can be certainly gratifing. But it can be scary. Last week my future SD admitted to me she had sex for the first time recently with her boyfriend. I couldn't look at her while we talked. lol. The BM knows but apparently gave her no advice. She told me they use the 'pull out' method. I almost died. I'm not the one who suppose to have this conversation with her. But I did. I set her straight on things.

Congrats on a new bonding moment.

It's just easier for us to talk to a 'stranger' than our own 'family'... case in point... this site. While we converse, find ourselves friendships, we really don't KNOW each other. But we are very comfortable confining in each other... that's because we are all willing to listen.

So, think of it that way. Wink You're comfortable to talk to because they know you'll listen, not pass judgment. I think it's a great thing!
