pay roll question?

purpledaisies's picture

When you get paid in the form of a check don't you have to fill out paper work to have that done? Not just put your name on a time card and write your time in?

Well here is how he explained it...he is paying a waiters pay but then making up the difference in cash every night. however there is still no paper work that has been done in order to get a check for the difference that he said the employee will get.

Does that make sense?

If there is no paperwork, then the employer is paying the employee under the table. Taxes, FICA, SUTA, SS and worker's comp is not being deducted. This is also a way to keep from tracking hours and paying overtime (when applicable). And they may not be getting paid for all of the hours they're working.

From an accounting manager's POV, this sounds extremely fishy to me.

My son was coming home with just 3 dollars an hour for washing dishes. He in not a waiter he washes dishes at a mexican place.
