Odd behavior - what motivates it?

PrincessFiona's picture

So help me figure this behavior out. I'm not sure why but SD16's newest thing is when she eats at our house she only uses paper plates and cups. She'll use a plastic cup for cereal instead of getting a bowl out of the cupboard. I have no idea why. What's the motivation for this? anyone got any ideas?

Does she think the dishes are mine, therefore untouchable? possibly, they are special to me, collectable pottery. However we all use them on a daily basis and I've never made a point of protecting them

Is it that the cupboard that hold the paper products is easier to get to in the kitchen there by limiting her interaction with me if I am in there? Possibly this too.

Is she afraid we might ask her to contribute to clean up if she uses dishes? Not likely and we have a dishwasher so I don't really make a big deal about doing dishes/cleanup

Do we have germs that she doesn't want to share dishes with us?

I'd like to not take it personally but I haven't yet come up with a reason to do this that isn't directed at me or our home.

Maybe she is just weird and that explains it in general!

I don't know? Is your SD16 a nice, thoughtful girl? If so, maybe she is using the paper plates and cups in an effort to not be a "burden" to someone having to do dishes?

If she's anything like my SD16 it's because she is a lazy slob and doesn't want to have to clean up after herself or risk having to {gasp} wash her own dishes

Nice, thoughtful, not so much. Self centered, lazy and entitled describes her better.

Its the cleaning up factor is my bet...
SD9 LOVES it when we use paper or our plastic plates, Paper is RARELY in the house but we do have plastic ones too, that means she doesn't have to rinse and or stack heavy dishes when its time to set the table or empty the dishwasher...

Not so much a concern now because for the last 6 months or so when I ask her to do chores she flat our refuses, so DD does them now...

Hmmm most likely not wanting to do the dishes after, lazy or depressed? Does she sleep in her clothes (so she doesn't have to worry about getting dressed in the morning)?

This was a few years ago and I shamed SO so badly about it he finally got her to wear jammies to bed.
