Dear Flying Spaghetti Monster please give me patience........

PeanutandSons's picture

Dh is going in for gastric bypass surgery in two weeks. From now until then he is on a liquid only diet. He's already in s horrible foul mood.....it will only get worse I am sure.

Then there's 4-6 weeks to recover from the surgery before he can eat real food again....so that's going to suck as well. Two weeks of liquid only and then two weeks of pureed food only before he can start to slowly eat solid food again.

FSM give patience....cause if I ask for strength I may use it to kill him.

LOL! I know several people who have undergone this surgery. The good news is after the surgery he wont even want the solid food Blum 3 Good luck to both of you!!

Thank you so much, I will probably have many question in the weeks to come.

He was told that the liquid diet was to shrink the liver so that he can access what's underneath it laproscopically. He didn't sell us anything special, we just got a bunch of low carb no sugar protein shakes.

Have you ever heard of the gastric sleeve? I have a friend at work who had that done in place of the bypass. I also have a friend that had the bypass.

Friend who had bypass was/is miserable. She lost a lot of weight, but is now gaining it back little by little. And she still gets sick a lot with the dumping syndrome. She had hers about 6 years ago.

Friend who had bypass LOVES it. The recuperation time was way less. She will sometimes get nauseous if she eats too fast, but other than that she is doing great. She has lost a lot of weight also. Not gained any back yet, but it has only been two years.

May be something to look into.

The sleeve and lap bands do not have the positive affect on diabetes like the gastric bypass. Only the gastric bypass jump starts the kidneys to produce the correct amount on insulin. The primary reason sh is having the surgery is to treat his diabetes, the weight loss is just a lovely bonus.

OMG! I wish I had known about this before. I thought insulin was produced in the pancreas though.

Maybe I have it confused....but whatever makes the insulin starts working again almost immediately after the surgery.

They discovered some chemical released from stomach lining that suppresses insulin production so when the stomach is so stretched out there is too much of this chemical produced. When they remove sure a large percentage of the stomach the amount of that chemical drops to almost nothing and insulin production returns to normal levels within days of the surgery.

The other weight loss surgeries don't have this same result I guess because they leave too much of the stomach.

It feels weird to evoke the name of god as an atheist....even just as a figure of speach, lol. FSM seems to be a good substitute in most circumstances.

Oh I know. I just think its funny and it seems to fit in any statement where god or Jesus would normally be.
