No Valentines from SS! The teacher had to scrounge up some for him to give out..

mrsparks's picture

Am I just being overly sensitive?
The teacher asked BM to make sure she sent SS with Valentines cards to exchange with the class, they sent a reminder home in the folders the day before, the teachers assistant reminded BM and BM told them- she would send them. It was also on the school calendar that is sent home and in the newsletter- I don't think BM looks at any of them.

On Friday they have the Valentine party and exchange and SS has no valentines.
The teacher had to give him a few that she had extra, so that he could exchange

The teacher proceeded to write a note to BM to inform her that SS was upset that he had no cards to exchange.

It's the little things like that, that are ticking me off- Does anyone else think that was heartless, or am I overreacting?

No, I get it. What kind of mother wants her kid to be "that" kid? The one that looks like he was thrown together at the last minute in the morning, the one that never gets to bring treats for the class.

It's the little things like that, that set the kid up for low self-esteem and social failure. All of those little things pile up and will take a great deal of work to undo once your SS realizes he's worthy of more.

nope.. I am w/you on this one.

When my skids were in 1st grade, BM still hadnt bought them Vday cards to give out at school.. it was the weekend before, so we picked them up for them.. she was TICKED when they showed her.. she chewed out my dh on how that was HER job.

Nice, then do it.

That's so hurtful. Your poor SS. Even if he doesn't say it he had to be so upset. Sad

Poor kid. My skids were known at the school for stuff like that. I was the first who ever sent them to school in halloween costumes. It finally got to the point that even when they were with their mom the school would call me.

I would be upset also. The reason I would be upset it because to a child stuff like that is VERY important and as a parent we know that and by her not getting those cards for him it sends the message that she doesnt care about the little things like that, that children look forward too. I know when my daughter came home last firday with her bag of goodies from her classmates so was extremly happy about them ... its all I heard about all night LOL

No you aren't being overly sensitive. When SS lived with BM, this kind of thing happened all of the time. When SS first moved in with us, we scraped pennies to make sure he could do those kinds of things at school. I remember being so excited for school parties when I was little. I don't know how a parent could do that to a child. I also remember the first time I offered to bake a cake for the last day of school party, the look on SS's face was priceless. Kids love that stuff.

We also would have sent them if we would have known chicken head wasn't going to, but we also live over an hour away, but I would have mailed them!!!
