I'm looking for ideas on tv shows to watch. I live overseas and watch everything online, so older shows are welcome. I usually like detective shows, but my taste really varies. Examples: Columbo, Burn Notice, Drop Dead Diva (is that over now?), Grimm, ofc Big Bang Theory, Almost Human (not the greatest show but nice ideas), Archer (in small doses), etc

Anyways, what are your favourite shows? And why?

Detective shows (I'm in the UK) but if you can get Cracker (I think there is a US version too, but I loved the UK one) and the "Prime Suspect" series with Helen Mirren (evolution and eventual self-destruction of a strong brilliant female detective), they are great shows. I watched "Lie to me" recently compulsively with Tim Roth and loved that. Did you watch Homeland? (I'm terrible for only watching stuff years after everyone else).

Just for fun shows: my daughter and I love Modern Family, and it's nice to have something we both enjoy together. I will find you links online to stuff if you can message me - joined this site a while back but only recently started using it, so I am StepTalk friendless and not sure how that works on here with IMs.

I am watching A LOT of stuff at the moment as distraction due to bub due any time now, and I've not been well towards end of this pregnancy so I'm not getting out much. Lots of film sites online I could send you links too also, if you're into films.

We mostly watch as a family (my sons are teenagers) and here are a few that we like a lot -
they have humor, and/or insights into human nature.

Arrested Development ( 1st 3 seasons)
Frasier ( all 11 seasons)
My So Called Life ( a classic for teens and adults)
Doc Martin ( Asperger-type doctor in a cute village in Corwall)
In Treatment ( my favorite - therapy show)
Breaking Bad ( very gruesome, good drama)
Curb Your Enthusiasm ( Larry David, creator of Seinfeld, unchained Smile

Brooklyn 99 is very funny, and a detective show. I just discovered it on Hulu and went on a binge of sorts.

I kind of have a soft spot for Canadian TV shows - some of my faves are Corner Gas, Flashpoint, and DaVinci's Inquest.

Freaks and Geeks is another favorite, though it only lasted one season. Such a shame - that show was so well done. I've watched the entire season more times than I should admit.

Oooh another good one is Deadwood. Takes place in an old west town. It took me a few episodes to really fall in love with the show but once I did I was hooked. I'm still sad that it got cancelled.

If you like Sci Fi, all the old episodes of Battlestar Gallictica from the Sci Fi channel is great. Also, I liked SG-1. It was on for years and I never watched it, DH turned me on to these and I powered through them on Net Flix. Sometimes watching 3 or 4 a day when I wasn't busy.

Also, my son has been watching House and Lost on Net Flix. He is at college, so all he does is watch these things on Net Flix. Also, the House of Cards series and Orange is the new black on Netflix are awesome....

Criminal Minds, law and order SVU and without a trace are my favorite detective shows- I like that you can sit down and watch any episode at any time and not really have to follow in a certain order.

Shows that I got glued to- house of cards and walking dead. House of cards is fascinating if you are into politics and walking dead is just cool.

If you like any kinds of drama I absolutely love Grey's Anatomy. You have to watch it from season one and honestly after season three/four you can tell that the writers changed. I still watch it but in the beginning it was an excellent show with excellent character development and storylines.

Also, parenthood is a good one.

The Walking Dead- my obsession. Seeing the way the characters change to adapt to circumstances is cool. And, okay, so are the walkers!

Breaking Bad- my current obsession since TWD is on hiatus. DH , BS18 and I have gotten through 4 1/2 seasons in three weeks. We're halfway through season 5. Again, the. Characterization is impressive. Great acting as well!

Game of Thrones- Violence, betrayal, sex, dragons, - kick-ass midget, and....hey, walkers!

Orange is the New Black- Funny and dramatic is turns. I like how the show tells each characters's backstory.

Bones- Makes you use your brain.

The Following- Not really sure why I like this one so much. Maybe it's my love of Poe.

American Horror Story- Every season is completely different, and a character who plays a good guy is one season may be completely evil in another. Jessica Lange rules. I personally liked the first season about the haunted house best.

That's really all I watch.

From the year 2000 there was a serie on the BBC called Coupling. I thought it was really funny but never saw it again. It did run for 4 years. No idea if it still available somewhere. It was like Friends but funnier. Well if you like the English humour.
But what's wrong with Geer en Goor Blum 3

My daughter keeps telling me to watch Sherlock. She loves it. She likes misfits too. Never seen it so it might be more for teenagers.
