Bald patches and eye twitches due to stress?..nice!

Lord help me..'s picture

Well, about 5 months ago I went to go and get my hair trimmed and the girl told me it might be uneven because of my alopecia..WHAT? I asked her what that was, I dint have alopecia. She said I had a bald spot on the crown of my head. I had never noticed it because my hair is long, black, and thick. I said ok and she went about her business. I went home and googled it of of course, and then cried because I didnt know the extent on how it would progress. This is usually a stress driven condition my doctor says..Take it easy.. Umm.. NOPE. I can recall when I had noticed my hair falling out in the shower and it was around the time I was having problems with my relationship and contemplating leaving because I couldnt handle the lack of control that My DH had on his son. No structure, No discipline, No demand to respect ALL the adults around us. His son would do things that my kids would get in trouble for. It was really hell. I didnt want to be around either DH or Skid. So last week we had an episode with him(ss6) that I had mentioned in a previous blog.I was watching him while DH was at work for the day and SS spanked MY 1 year old and made him cry. I blew a fuse and scolded him and asked him if I let my other older boys, 8 and 9, spank the baby? and what made him think he could? especially when the baby wasnt doing anything. I WANTED to slap HIM, but i didnt. I waited until dad came home to address the situation formally. Of course the "talk" ended in hugs and kisses. Then the next day he threw a baseball at DH and I while DH snuck a kiss from me. I had had it by then and told DH to leave with his son for the day. I couldnt take any more of it. My hair started coming out in globs and now I have 2 bald spots above my forehead. I showed DH how this stress is now physically manifesting itself and I just cannot take it anymore. I take vitamins, on the verge of taking some sort of anti-anxiety med. But really?? WHY DO I HAVE TO DO THIS? All because of a 6 yr old with behavioral problems. I gave the ultimatum.. DH either get the sitaution under control or he can spend his visitation weekends somewhere else until he does. I cant watch SS any more if this kind of behavior is going to continue. He is now trying to hurt people. And I WONT let that sh** fly again if he even touches a hair on my baby!!

I'm in the same boat. I just went the other day to pamper myself and the girl that cut my hair made the comment about my hair falling out. She said when she washed it, it came out by the handful. I almost cried. I know its all due to stress. Sad thing is, is that I AM on anti stress meds....... maybe I need a bottle of wine instead.

lol. I always keep my wine rack fully stocked! lol. Sad that it comes down to that but things that go on aren't stuff we pull out of our asses! My DH and I hopefully had a break through last weekend. I think it was the worst fight we have had. I have never told him to get his son and leave. And I told him if he wants things to change and for me to be accepting again, he needs to stop ignoring the bull. I stopped caring when he stopped.

I had the same thing. Woke up one morning with a spot of hair missing. Stress level was high...Went to the doctor because I freaked out. They gave me a prescription of a topical cream to put on the spot. It was about 6 months and it filled back in. But, there were a lot of other little spots at the back that they found that were starting. The main one on the front was about the size of half dollar...Talk to a doctor and get the cream now. It arrests the condition. Also, start taking it easy. Because once you get this condition, Alopecia Areata as an adult, we can get it several times over our lifetime...PM me if you want more info on the script.

I was told it was stress and it came about from a virus in my blood stream that went to my hair follicles. Very wierd, personally I blame DH and my family who was causing unbelievable stress at the time.

Thank you. Very helpful!! I had mentioned it to my doc about 5 months ago and he didnt really take it too seriously. I will PM you right now Smile

I had the same thing happen and it turns out it was hypothyroidism. They originally told me is was alopecia but did a blood test anyway. Once they got me on the correct dose my hair grew back in the bald spots. You should have them do a blood test. You never know.

This happened to me last week, I noticed after I had a shower my hair was coming out in globs. Weird, I had no idea it was associated with stress.

Just be careful. Some people get it worse than others. I have seen pictures of HUGE bald patches in womens hair.

My patch was the size of a silver dollar and definitely alopecia. Woke up one morning and the hair was just gone...Definitely not Thryoid issues, I had a full physical at the time. When they started looking at my whole head, he saw lots of smaller spots where the hair was gone. Honestly, I don't think I was under that much stress. There were times in my life where there was a lot more and this never happened. I think it was a virus, like the doc said. But, stress can make it happen worse and faster.

Luckily I have a doc apt. next week. I hope I can manage this, whatever it might be.. It just sucks when all my life I have been prided on having long hair. I cannot imagine having none/some/short hair.
