Just for fun, any of you have SK's with awful names

littlemommy's picture

I admit it I'm a name snob }:) Without giving away anything too personally identifying of course. My SD has a completely normal, altho not common name that her mother totally butchered with a random Y thrown right in the middle of it so that it will never ever be spelled correctly. It embarrasses me and I cringe everytime I see it!

So any of you have any SK's with random Y's, apostrophes, or other butchered spellings or made up names?

Hahahahahaha, I hate SD's name. I'll PM it to you, if you like. It's so trailer trash. I'm so happy that someone posted asking about this, hahahahaha! I needed the laugh!

To be clear I like uncommon names too, my son's name isn't in the top 100, I think it came in somewhere around 350 according to the social security list. It's spelled correctly tho and isn't one you look at and go "huh?" at tho.

Same here. I've never heard of another person with my name. My kids also have unusual names.

SD has a name that is so trendy it makes me want to puke when I hear it. All her half siblings from her mom are the same way...all of them #1 trendiest name for the past few years. Gag me.

My OBD is Scarlett and we were absolutely at a loss with what to name my youngest BD so she ended up being Violet, in retrospect that's kind of dorky but oh well, the Skids both have V's in their names and they match well with my girls I guess. No odd spelling. Their middle names were names I wanted to go after my daughters names so that was annoying, my oldestest took my middle name which is half of my SD9's middle name which is her mothers.

I thought SD16's name was pretty "Trendeigh", but it turns out I was wrong...

http://www.ssa.gov/oact/babynames/

This lets you see up to the top 1000 names for both boys and girls by birth year. SD16's name is in the high 300s - DH's is #51 for his birth year, and mine is #36 for my birth year. SD16's isn't spelled funny, it's just rare. More common than when I was a kid, but still uncommon.

Neither SS9 nor SD8 have HORRIBLE names but combined with their middle names, they are terrible.

SD16 & SD14 have VERY "popular" first names with the random Y's thrown in...both are so common it's disgusting yet both of them get feisty if anyone misspells their names...blah blah. I guess redneck names by BM Redneck...hmmm...

I like uncommon names & SD8 has a pretty uncommon name, but I don't like who she's named after (maternal GM or Nasty SR who has NOTHING to do with them, what-so-ever). SO doesn't like that I don't like their names...apparently, I should be in AWE at Nasty's naming talents...NOT!

I don't think any of them are really weird, although SD6 and DD11 both have basically the same first name, just a different variation of it. Sort of weird but my daughter goes by her second name (ranks 98 for her YOB) rather then the first so it's not confusing anyhow. SS8 is named after a douche who SO was BFF's with for 17 years, until said douche went off the deep end, had a mental break and went completely psychotic. So has said on more then one occasion that he feels bad for his son because he is stuck with an assholes name, his name isn't weird or anything though, actually quite common. I like unique names, I don't care for the names that 50 billion people have and I don't want my kids sitting in a class room with 5 other kids with the same name yanno? So I tried to give them unique names but not too off the wall. My first daughter has a unique name, my youngest daughter however had an unique name (ranks 3 for her YOB) until the year following her birth it somehow because super popular which sort of annoyed me, even though it was apparently popular I didn't know any other kids personally with that name. My oldest son has a name that is quite catchy, everyone says they love it but it isn't even in the top 1000 names and the last time it did rank was in the 1940's and mostly as a surname. My youngest son ranks at 612, also uncommon but not off the wall and everyone loves his name too.

A trailer trash sounding name would fit SD15, but she has a relatively normal name spelled with a “k” rather than a “c” but it’s not unusual. It contains the syllable “care” which is the last word I would ever describe her with. Unless it was “cares only about herself”.

SS9 has a very popular, traditional Biblical name and prefers to be called the full name, not the nickname. To me, it sounds strange for a little boy to be called that.

SS7‘s name was trendy 20 years ago (think Kathy Lee’s son’s name). Now it sounds plain silly, but I’m surprised to see how popular it still is on that Social Security site (why do they have baby names???) I can’t see going to a doctor or a lawyer with that name. Or the president having that name? It sounds childish and unprofessional.

My ss is ranked number 1 for boys names. My dd has a random Y thrown in her name-with her spelling her name is ranked 732-the more traditional spelling is ranked 115. My other dd's name with a traditional spelling is ranked 77. I didnt even look for her spelling. My son's name is 7. I dont think any of my kids names are trashy. My dd with the Y-I didnt do it to be "trendy"-I did it because its a short first name and our last name is also short-it just looked too short when you wrote it out so I inserted the Y. It also, IMO, makes it look more feminine as I have heard her name used for a boy before. My younger daughter has a little bit of a unique spelling-it is Madelynn. The more traditional spellings are Madelyn or Madeline or something of that sort. We specifically went with the spelling we chose because my middle name is Lynn so she is sort of named after me in that respect.

Your daughters name is the same as my oldest! It's a pretty cool name if you ask me! Only her's has no Y in it.

My sd4's name is a very common BOY DOGS name.. We have been at a friend's house before playing outside, and yes it was their dogs name, and she was running around in the yard with him.. it was pretty humorous. Id never name my kid a name that could be mistaken for the opposite sex or 'unisex' name, your just asking for trouble.

lol I know exactly what name you are talking about and it was my cats name and my neighbors dogs name. lol

My aunt by marriage had a sister whose dog was named Marcus. Their son (born later) was named Martin. My mother and her friend got the 2 confused... yikes!

My OSS first name was chosen by my DH as a consideration of his then wifes grandfather who he respected enormously. OK, his mother would call for him DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNN in her nasily voice...blah! She butchers YSS as well BBRRRIIIAAAAAANNN!

My kids are (and I don't care because some of them live here and some don't) Eleanor (Nell), William (Will), Rosanagh (pronounced Roseanna and shortened naturally to Rosie)Alexander (Alex)... there, done!

I am named for both of my grandfathers. Very common names for both my first and middle names. I am proud of them. They were good when I got them and I have done what I can to make them and the family name better.

My two brothers also have fairly common names.

DW has a fairly common name.

Our son has the two most typical and common names of male children born in the 90's. If you call either of his names out in a crowd of late teens to early 20s caucasian males 2/3rds of them will answer you. DW promised a HS classmate to name our kid with the first name he has. The funny thing is that she does not even remember the name of the girl she made the promise to.

My favorite is when they have more than one middle name... that just makes me crazy and I know from step kid and teaching experience, about 90% of those many named kids have nut job parents.
