Chores

Sorry for annoying you guys all again.

BF just called asking if I could do up a list of chores for SS13 to do. He now lives with us (4 months) and expects an allowance but not doing anything for it.
BF and I agreeded that we will give him $10.00 a week if all his daily/weekly chores are done. I'm not sure if I have enough chores listed for him (well he is getting $10.00) or if I have too many for only $10.00.
1. Make his bed
2. After school, out of school uniform (he always leaves it on until he goes to bed)
3. Dinner table to be set
4. Take out tash (once a week)and bring back in following day.
5. Water the garden (once a week) 5min job if that
6. Rinse his dish when placed in the sink.
7. Fed the dog once a day
8. After his shower, clothes either folded for next day or in laundry basket (not left on the floor)
9. His shoes placed neatly in the row of shoes in the laundry not thrown there.

What do you guys think, too many chores or not enough? Some of them to me arn't really even chores just common sense but to a kid its work (I wish i was a kid again)
I have to admit I'm abit stuck on other things to get him to do.

Sounds good to me, I would throw in a night of washing dishes or a load of laundry though.

I would totally have him:

washing his OWN clothes

loading and unloading the dishwasher every other night.

Pick up dog poop in yard, if applicable

clean his room once a month/week (depends on how dirty he is)

vacuuming the rugs once a week

Sweep kitchen floor on the days he doesnt have to load/unload the dishwasher.. so every other day.

Well, some sound like rules, some sound like chores. I would separate the two. Tell him he has to follow the rules & do this chores to get the $$.

Chores
1. Make his bed (TAKES WHAT, 30 SECONDS?)
3. Dinner table to be set (5 MINUTES, TOPS?)
4. Take out tash (once a week)and bring back in following day. (5 MINUTES/WEEK)
5. Water the garden (once a week) 5min job if that
6. Rinse his dish when placed in the sink. (30 SECONDS)
7. Feed the dog once a day (1 MIN)

Total time to complete: 18 MIN 40 SEC PER WEEK

Rules
2. After school, out of school uniform (he always leaves it on until he goes to bed)
8. After his shower, clothes either folded for next day or in laundry basket (not left on the floor)
9. His shoes placed neatly in the row of shoes in the laundry not thrown there.

So as of right now he'll get $10 for doing less than 20 min of work per week. Sounds pretty damn good to me!

Sounds like rules are being mistaked for chores....I would even put most of the chores in Melis list into the rules column. Chores to me is the trash vacumming, dusting, window washing, laudry things like this....Doing things that are only expected should not be considered a chore.. Cleaning the toilet, the ring in the bathtub (that of course they put there). Those are chores.. Do you have a cat? Kitty litter is a chore.

Most grown people do not get paid for their labor at 20.00 an hour. How will that make him a responsible adult? That is our goal, right? Yall are very generous. He eats, sleeps, and is protected by the weather and furthermore is clothed. WoW He Got A Good Thing Going......

I know some are rules and some are chores.
I did end up adding alot more CHORES to the list than what I posted on here.
Unfortunatly BF didn't want me to have a list of 1 lot of chores and one lot of rules. We have been punishing him when he hasn't been following rules by not letting him play his xbox which he absolutly loves during the school week, but unfortunatly it hasn't been working so this is actually something BF came up with.
So at the end of the day I thought well it's his son and if this is how he wants to do it then we'll give it a go and see if things improve.
SS13 knows that this is a trial for a couple of weeks to see if things improve, so I'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks for your thoughts and advice. I'll keep you guys posted on how it goes.

What wonderful things chores are-I know my son wouldn't have agreed with that statement when he was 12, but he's sure glad he knows how to do some things now!

Lets see-at 12, I taught him to do his laundry-sort, water temp., etc. (tho I notice, when he comes to visit now-he throws it in all at once, darn it).

I was working full time and taking a college course 3 nites a week, single mom, so, 3 nites a week he fixed his own supper. (ok, it was for a short period of time-5 months-and I did buy him hamburgers out, etc more than once), but you get the idea.

At 12, I taught him to run the lawn mower. But only when I was home, because they can be dangerous.

He also had to help me keep the house in order. And his least favorite chore-you guessed it! Poop patrol. We had two dogs. He hated that job!

But it was good for him and good for me. And now, if he gets a dog, he sure knows how to clean up after it. Biggrin
