Overprotected Kid article

This is pretty good so far (haven't gotten all the way through). I'd say it mirrors the parents who are being complained about on this site and makes it sound (so far) like those on this site doing the complaining and pushing kids are a true minority.

Meh. For centuries kids worked alongside parents or as apprentices to adults.  They weren’t roaming around unsupervised.  They were busy learning to be adults.  I think the public school system has made everyone lazy at child rearing.  No one wants to do it, so I guess the new theory is that kids should just teach themselves?

I do agree that kids should be learning to do dangerous adult stuff, but they also need supervision.  So, instead of learning by experimentation like these kids, my kids by 6 learned with an adult how to set a proper fire in a fire pit and how to also not burn down the forest.
