Kids Behind Bars: Life or Parole, Dana Barker

She murdered her SM, but it's not her fault.  She loved...err...hated...err....loved her SM.  Why did a split second decision one year in the planning have to ruin her whole live?  /s

Available on Hulu.

I read the article.  I don't feel that sorry for her.  I get that she's had a rough life, but that doesn't excuse her murdering someone.  She took away someone's mother, someone's daughter, and ruined her own life in the process.

Oh, I don't feel sorry for her at all.  The above was sarcasm.  She has zero remorse, imo.

I watched it. I have mixed feelings.  Her dad set this up, I have no doubt.  She was brainwashed pretty much.  I think she has served her time, and given it was done as a minor, I don't oppose her seeking to appeal/get out.  In the recordings, she did sound remorseful and honest about her horrible crime and it's effect on the family.

It's too bad the dad never served time (before he passed)....I didn't see this as black/white as one would have thought.

The dad was definitely a sh!tbag, and he was definitely behind it all.  However, I think Dana enjoyed the alliance with him villifying the SM, and hated the SM in her own right.  And I don't think she is remorseful at all.

She had other sociopathic behavior prior to the murder.  She complained that a split second decision ruined her life, yet she planned the murder for over a year.  She said she doesn't know how she is supposed to act remorseful.  She said her father wasn't all bad, and she continued to see him after she was imprisoned.  She has no emotion.

Hey, Ispo

I agree with your sound conclusion, particularly when considering your gruelling years as SM to the very poster child for psychopathy. A premeditated murder and a ‘split second decision’ are two very different matters! Yes 3

As a stepparent and a woman, this could be any of us

A lot of ppl dismiss cases where the children want to kill their stepmother/father and make excuses as if they were being treated badly. Its like that boy who wrote 100s of pages manifesto that he wanted to kill his SM and hated all women. Coincidentally, he viewed his BM as the best while she was feeding him hate and lies about the SM....

When these "children" commit crimes against stepparents, its never actually seen as serious and they bring up a slew of excuses and paint the dead/hurt SP as evil and deserving
