Do You Monitor Minor Kids' Social Media?

Frustr8d1's picture

Does anyone monitor kids/skids email or social media accounts? It seems like all the access to social media is more responsibility than kids can handle these days. Does anyone try to keep tabs or even have their kids' passwords so you can see what they are saying to their friends?

DH did with his children. SD posted some provocative pix when she was in junior high n high school. DH made her to take it down n of course BM had to defend her princess "everyone dresses like that...blah...blah.." DH shot back "only slut dresses like that." :jawdrop: LOL

Puke will block anyone who might rat on her from seeing some of the things she posts. She friended me on FB and I guess she didn't block me so I could see everything. As a woman, it disturbed me to see the things on her FB. I'm no saint but we are talking vulgar. Dh didn't believe me once until I showed him. He brushed it off saying "I don't know why she does that." At that point I blocked her from seeing my profile. Puke has been known to have 2 separate accounts on social media websites. One that is locked down and another to post on to keep up appearances. Puke will wig out if anyone acts like they are going to touch her phone but will get on Dh's phone without asking. I look at her instagram page just for entertainment but I have a feeling I don't see everything.

Yep-same thing in my house. When my kids were minors, I told them that they would have no privacy. In order for them to have access to social media, I had their passwords. I told them that if they were clever enough to outfox me, well good for them. It never happened. I was quite the sneaky and misbehaved teenager, and I told my kids there wasn't anything that they could conceive of that I had not successfully pulled off. They believed me.

They tried to outsmart me from time to time but the mama mafia let me know every single time something was posted that I was not able to see. I remember they used to get so angry because they could not figure out how I possibly knew what they had posted on sites they thought I was not aware of. I told them that they could have their privacy when they no longer lived in my house or took one penny of my money. I no longer monitor their accounts though I am friends with all of them on Facebook. There are some things I don't want to see, but they are all adults now and responsible for themselves.

Kids are not nearly as smart as they think they are And their parents are not as stupid as they think they are.

DH monitors the skids activity, but not very well. With the exception of ASS-whose every keystroke is monitored and recorded. It's a bit of a bummer right now because ASS does not have access to his home computer due to his behavior. We can't see what's going on right now. ASS uses public computers at the library.

DH used to have baby voice and karate kid monitored as well, but I believe he has stopped doing that.

YES! I monitor my kids. I have passwords and so does ExH, we both log in regularly and check most everything.
I don't have the instagram or snapchat account information, but my kids SM is logged in on her phone and watches DD's accounts for that.
So as a parenting team we have all the bases covered.

DH and BM don't monitor the kids accounts.
