Just Curious

One of my past co-workers, who was single, beautiful, happy, fitness guru, successful, (did I say single & HAPPY?)....She was the LAST person anyone expected to actually tie the knot and settle down! She finally surprised everyone and got married 2 yrs ago. To a gorgeous, fit, awesome man.....divorced...with 2 young kids...

Ok, so she seems to have been dealing with it so easily and flawlessly for 2 years. She still has her job. Still travels all over the world. Still fit. Still happy. Still independent. Then 2 years later, I'm reading her updates on Facebook only to see this short conversation with her DH and his mom:

MIL: I just love the pictures of my grandkids and your family!
Friend's DH: Yep, the kids are getting so big.
MIL: Have they met Step-Mom yet?
Friend's DH: No, not yet.

After 2 years and haven't met the stepmom yet?? Soooooo now I get why it's all good still....she has managed to completely avoid the entire step-world of marrying a man with 2 young kids! And from what I gather, the BM is intrusive as hell. I wish my friend the best but seriously. How long do you think you can really avoid dealing with being a step, even if you're a world traveling professional? Makes me wonder why I gave up my traveling profession to be a SAHM :? I must be dumb.

2 YEARS? How does that even happen? Is BM forbidding it? How can she respect her DH for allowing that?

On one hand I want to be like "wow how can be she MARRIED to someone like that?"

On the other hand I'm thinking "wow, she is LUCKY and having it all!"

If everyone involved is happy, and it sounds like they've worked out what could be a good arrangement.

Maybe the DH and BM have a perfectly amicable co-parenting agreement, with the doting MIL, and BM's parents all chipping in to help. This could mean her input isn't required, and her traveling may fit well with when the children are with him.

In theory they could keep this up for the next 18 years I suppose, or more likely they're playing it by ear and plan to introduce the SM at the time and pace that feels right.

I think most divorces end up relatively amicable, at least as far as the welfare and care of the children is concerned. These forums highlight the uglier situations, since those are the ones people look for support on, but I've know arrangements not dissimilar to this, and the children have turned out perfectly happy and well adjusted.

I freaking wish! I mean I guess I would want to meet the kids, but to never know the BM would be heavenly!

Yep I'm SOOO jealous! Her DH has the kids for their birthday on the very same day that she took a road trip! She's been married to this guy for 2 yrs and still has NOT met the skids!! Perfect situation in my opinion.
