Dear God SD! Just stop talking!

Christmas is hard for me. My mom died when I was 18 near Christmas and each year since then I take an angel ordament to her grave on the way to our family dinner. This is the firat time Sd16 has come with us to the cemetery. All she had to do was just be quiet for 5 minutes...

SD: why did I never meet your mom?
Me: she died in 1990.
SD: Yeah...*confused look*
Me: you were born in 1998.
SD: So I was 8 when she died?
Me: No. She was gone for 8 years before you were born.
SD: I don't get it.
Me: Dh? Perhaps you should wait in the car.
Leave it to SD to make a hard moment harder.

I'm so sorry. The pain of losing a parent never really goes away.

Your SD is not the brightest crayon in the box, is she?

Sorry for your loss :(. But, I have to ask, does your SD have a learning disability?!

So no one has ever taught this 16 yr old tact and decorum? Just wow. I am so sorry fedupstep. This is the 2nd time in 3 years my mother has had a health crisis on the other side of the world. I cannot imagine your pain and loss. Time for this young ady to stop her navel gazing and duckface making and grow the 'flip' up.

Thank you everyone Smile And no she doesn't have a learning disability. DH only heard the last minute of this brillant exchange but when he saw thw 'wtf' look on my face, he stepped in and distracted her then took her to the car so I could have a couple minutes to myself. If he hadn't I know I would have lost it on her and then her previous feelings would be hurt.
