Family reunion (Blog Hogging)

My dad's side of the family is from the Appalachian Mountains. They have some weird customs, but they are also really neat! One of them is our family reunion.

The family reunion is held on a mountainside, that is also the family cemetery. Every second Sunday in July, the family migrates to our mountain, for a church service, and potluck dinner in the cemetery. The cemetery happens to be a mile and a half almost straight uphill, and you cannot get there without a four wheel drive - unless it rains.. then you just cannot get there!

My dad died 26 years ago, and I quit going to the mountain nine years ago. I kind of whispered a little promise in my heart, to myself and my dad that I would be back when I could bring both of my girls (SDs). Until then, I would stay home, and take care of Mom's house and business.

(That was when I started getting "sick". I think I had a nervous breakdown, and for the longest time I couldn't leave my house. The last time I was on the "hill" as we call our mountain, it was everything I could do to go.)

Well, guess who has custody of the girls? Yep! This girl!

Unfortunately, Hubby's car will not make it to the hill, and the car that we had planned to borrow, got borrowed out from under us! My little family was going to just catch rides with my big family, but everyone has decided to leave early on Friday, and come back on Monday. Hubby does not want to miss two days of work, so he is staying home. To make it even worse, we are leaving on his birthday! Sad

*Big Sigh*

Part of me is really nervous, and the other part is really really excited! My girls are just plain excited. I hope I haven't built this up too big, but I think a lot of it has to do with family time. They love to go to family events, and this one will last for four days. Biggrin

The girls and I will have a cabin all to ourselves. (We will have an empty bed, though, so we might invite someone to bunk with us.) My mom, sisters and brother will all be within walking distance, though, and my sister is taking her four-wheelers. Biggrin

Wish me luck, guys. I hope the girls will behave!
