What the F*&! did you do to your hair!?

Drac0's picture

Okay this blog entry probably needs a little introduction. For the longest time, SS would accompany me to my hairdresser. It’s just a little place in the local mall. It was kinda “our thing”. Just me and my stepson. It was fun while it lasted and it was one of the few times SS and I did something alone together.

When Donkeykong found out, he started heading me off at the pass. I told SS that the next time he was with us on the weekend (which is the weekend before Halloween) I would take him to get our hair cuts.

Imagine my surprise when I go to pick up SS yesterday, and he comes out of his Dad’s house sporting this

http://flexistentialist.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/erics_mohawk...

Yes. It is *THAT* bad. It’s awful! I have never in my life seen a haircut that bad. To make matters worse, it’s crooked! You look at him straight on and you quickly notice that the Mohawk angles to the left. Seriously he looks like he is wearing one of those Roman Centurian helmets and he took a blow to the right side of the head!

I asked him if that is what he wanted and he said “yeah. Me and Dad have the same haircut!”

:jawdrop:

I honestly didn’t know what to say. I mean, okay, it’s nice that Donkeykong finally found *something* to actually bond with his son, but COME ON! Couldn’t these two have gone to the Arcade to play air hockey and then shared a banana split afterwards or something? Oh no! “Let’s get bad haircuts! Yeah! Now everyone will know we are father and son!”

I hope when they drive somewhere together, they don’t drive a convertible with the top down because their car will veer to the right.

Oh and I WISH I could have recorded DW’s reaction. To her credit, she did her best to hold back her shock and disgust in order to not embarrass SS. “He looks like an extra from one of the Mad Max movies!” She told me afterwards “AND WHY IS IT CROOKED!?!?”Oh boy DW was fuming! She must have called Donkeykong all kinds of colorful metaphors last night.

I would make my kids shave their head if they ever came home like that. OMG!!!!!!!!!! Mine know better, they all wanted mo hawks last year because a kid on the football team had one for the summer. Over my cold dead body will my kids look like stupid punks.

Drac0's picture

Damn right! I know hair styles come and go but this hairdo is likely to get more of a negative reaction than positive ones.

overworkedmom's picture

Even if you take away the way the rest of the world views him, why would Donkey Kong do something so drastic without talking to your DW?? This was a big deal.

Drac0's picture

Ha! Donkeykong would NEVER ask DW for permission to do anything with his son. Even something as drastic as this. It's *HIS* son afterall - as in *HIS* property. In Donkeykong's mind, he can do whatever he wants to do with SS on his custody time. He even told us as much which is why DW just doesn't bother talking to him anymore. This is why I hate the first few days when SS is back in our custody because we end up having to reprogram SS from all the bad habits he picked up at his Dad's.

I don't think it's that bad. I like mohawks on boys/teenagers. At least he didn't dye it green.

The most hilarious part of this post was when you said that you and SS go to the HAIRDRESSER. :jawdrop: I would understand if you said barber, but hairdresser?!?!? LOL!

Drac0's picture

We don't have barbers anymore. Every place that cuts hair is unisex now and either call themselves "hairdressers" or "hair stylists". In the case of the place that SS went to, it's "rent-a-weedwhacker"

ETA: >I don't think it is that bad.<

Did you even LOOK at the picture!? It's bad! I'm talking REAL BAD! It doesn't suit SS at all. SS is already a tall and skinny kid. This hairdo makes him look even taller and even skinnier! Seriously, he better steer cleer of the high school track team because they might mistake him for a javellin!

LMFAO!!!! "I hope when they drive somewhere together, they don’t drive a convertible with the top down because their car will veer to the right."

the mental image is hilarious!!!!! kinda like built-in rudders, eh?

lmao!!!

Speaking as someone who has been in the "beauty" industry for well over 15 years allow me to calm your wrath, Draco by reciting my mantra regarding haircuts, "It's only hair. It will grow back." Now say that 25 more times to yourself. It'll grow out, rapidly, at your ss's age. In some schools they will not allow a hair style the deem "distracting to the learning environment" so he may have to have it "re-cut". Here's to hoping...

Drac0's picture

"It's only hair. It will grow back"
"It's only hair. It will grow back."
"It's only hair. Shapped into a crooked shark's fin. It will grow back."
"It's only hair. Must stop staring. It will grow back."
"It's only hair. Donkeykong is a moron. It will grow back."

I'm trying....I'm really trying!

BM keeps the skids' hair super short .. just like hers. They look ridiculous. SD7's bangs are so short .. she constantly looks like she had to have her hair cut to get gum out or something. She does all of that just so DH can't take them to get haircuts.

Eh .. it's hair. It grows back. I don't really see it as a big deal .. Mohawks on boys aren't really uncommon at that age. I think I prefer the sloppy Mohawk look over the girly Beiber look. If he likes it, I'd just let it go. Luckily hairstyles are like most other fads .. they grow out of them.

Look on the bright side. If it's as bad as you say, as crooked as you say (are you sure he didn't just style/blow it poorly?), you got about 3, 2, 1 until back to the barber kid goes. If kid goes to school this morning and his peers gasp, point and laugh and all the other unkind things middle school kids do, the hair cut while last about as long as it takes to either do an even worse 'home job' or the trip back to correct the 'do'.

If you comes home and all the kids complimented him and the girls swooned, meh, you're stuck with it for a short time. Nothing last for long. Kids change styles, fads and likes pretty rapidly. Be glad SS is too young for matching tats Blum 3

So how about instead of the hairdresser being your and SS's 'thing' why not now Saturday morning breakfast out once in a while. Just the two of you.

Draco, I know it's a shock but I agree with the others too -- this is a passing fad. Just HOPE he doesn't let it grow out into that stoooooopid Bieber look -- my SS's walk around with that, looking like Cousin It got caught in a strong wind from the west (they literally comb it ACROSS their faces from left to right)

My DD wanted to get her almost black hair dyed bright red. All of it. Luckily our stylist talked her into trying out a swatch of hair in the front first (to get a feel for the time involved to dye it and also the time and money involved in maintaining it). After 4 months she lost interest in it.

I've had some really bad haircuts in my long lifetime (I used to have really short hair) and they do all grow out.

My own pointy-headed opinion as a parent -- the more you fight this the more your son will dig in his heels. Crooked Mohawk or not, he's proud of it right now. Let him have his moment and I bet you he'll grow tired of it. Honestly, your SS doesn't sound like the type of kid who will be willing to spend a lot of time waxing it every morning to make it stand straight up.

Oh no. SS will not touch anything that even remotely feels slimy (like hair gel). Seriously, he doesn't even like putting shampoo lotion into the palm of his hand. He'll squeeze the shampoo bottle directly into his hair and then quickly place his head under the shower head to wash it off. DW and I even tried to show him how to properly lather it up but he won't do that because it is too "icky".

Everyone has different taste/preference. Like SMof2 said, this is a popular style right now.

Personally, I see no reason to care about what other people do with their hair. Yeah, I'm seen in public with them, but they're the ones wearing it.

Drac0's picture

It's not a personal taste. It's not a passing fad. It's not a popular style that SS wanted to emulate.

SS got that stupid doo because that is what his father got. And his father is a fraking idiot. God bless SS for thinking the world of his Dad, but those rose colored shades are not going to stay on for long.

As others have said, "it is hair and it will grow back." Obviously the child wanted that style or they wouldn't have done it. Kids like to express themselves. If that is the worst thing they do then you are lucky. They could be getting into trouble. If you just go along with it and pretend it doesn't bother you then it loses it's shock value and will probably go away very soon. Besides depending on the feedback they get from schoolmates they may get buzzed sooner rather than later. I know it stinks when the other parent kind of "steals your thunder" in this case took away your time with the child for something you two did together but that is what they do to get back at you. I've been putting up with that kind of stuff for 10 years and in my case it only gets worse as time goes by. I find if you act like it doesn't bother you then they move onto other ways to get at you. They are always looking for ways to hurt you but what they don't realize or don't want to realize, is that the children are the one's who get hurt.

I have an idea: if he does hate it & want it gone right away, I'd make him keep it until he went back toDonkeykong's, that way you & DW have nothing to do with 'taking away' what DK so lovingly gave him... Two weeks hating a hairdo may make SS think twice about doing it again.

tryingmom's picture

Well, at least he got a haircut!

SS13 went 3 long years with nothing but a trim once a year. His hair was down tot he middle of his back and he is a small boy with pretty facial features. When we'd bring him out to a restaurant waitresses would ask him "what would you like to drink Miss?" Oy vey! SS13 would rage about how everyone called him a girl. Ummmm....well....you've allowed your hair to grow longer than most girls around so what do you think they are going to think??

This year BM (or GBM, as BM doesn't pay for anything for the skids) sprung for haircuts. Beiber do haircuts for both skids. It looks far better!!! And now we have two boys!

Drac0's picture

At the risk of sounding like Ozzy Osbourne in that Super Bowl commercial, I have no idea what a Bieber doo is. I know who Justin Bieber is but I had no idea he had a hair cut named after him. I googled some images, and I have to laugh. Isn't it exactly the same as the hairdoo sported by "The Monkees"?

My Ex gave BS that same haircut a couple of years ago. It was awful! Of course BS loved it. Not only did it look awful but it was hard to keep up with. Sorry I don't have time to style his hair before leaving at 6:30am every day.

This year Ex texted me and said "dont cut BS's hair when I get him 4th of July, we are both getting mowhawks." I just acted like I never got the text message (it was a month before the time anyways) and ignored it. Seriously it's bad enough for BS to have one but a 37 year old man?

Well it just happened that BS needed a haircut at that time. Yes he truly did and yes it was good because I did not want to deal with some ugly mowhawk.

And of course Ex made sure to mention to BS that he was planning on getting them mowhawks but me as the bad mommy got his hair cut so he couldnt get one. :?

>Seriously it's bad enough for BS to have one but a 37 year old man? <

Donkeykong is around the same age (hence why my jawdrop smiley in the OP). I know some people have a hard time looking and dressing like their age, but Donkeykong is just a blithering idiot who thinks he's hip and cool.

What is it with these idiots giving their kids stupid haircuts? And, ok, I get that "it grows back" but that really isn't the point. The point is that the kid looks like a freaking idiot and WE have to be seen with them in public like that.

Oh, yeah, BM over here thought mohawks were such a cute look! More like so white trash. I was mortified. Damn near made myself a t-shirt that said, "Not my kid, I had nothing to do with the stupid haircut."
