The Catering!

I'm remaining calm, cool, collected and pretty much 99% disengaged from YSD at this point. Not due to her necessarily but the lack of parenting and blow back I get when I try to do ANYTHING.

I do take her, once a week, into town with me and drop her at the bus stop that is my transfer point as well. This causes no issue for me and it's not out of my way. She knows the drill.

On my way home is trickier sometimes. Usually I'll pick her back up on the way home, same place, unless I need to work late, then DH can go get her. She will however, if I'm picking her up, have to wait less than 30 minutes for me since her bus gets there first. She has several options of dry, warm, safe places to go. DH was confirming my plans to pick her up this evening.

Me:  Yes, I'm on the normal commute so I can pick her up. She'll just need to let me know where she is when she gets there.

DH: OK, good. How long of a wait will she have?

Me:  I don't know exactly when her bus arrives, I will be there by X time for sure. It will be less than 30 minutes though.

DH:  Are you sure? 30 min?

Me:  It's only MAX 30 minutes - she's in a good, warm place to wait. She's not 7.....

DH:  Thank goodness it's not more than 30 minutes.

Me:  What?  What if it WAS more than 30 minutes?  Would that be so terrible? She cannot learn to wait? She must be picked up immediately? We were not just talking about how bad entitlement was for teens just the other day?

DH:  .....long pause.....           Well, 30 mintues is ok.

Me:  And if you don't like it, then YOU can start picking her up each time.

Oh, poor baby has to wait... for someone doing a favor.

Tell DH to tell his daughter that time flies when one is reading a good book. She can read, can't she?

Yep. I swear, there are those who think it's a crime if a kid has to wait half a second. Sheesh. And if she doesn't read or carry a book, does she have a mindless game on her cell phone - solitaire, candy crush..

Yes, she always has a book - one of the places she can wait is a cafe - I've said several times to both her and DH that would be a GREAT place to wait. Friendly staff, she can get a snack (of course she has to learn to order things - a skill she doesn't seem to have nor is carrying cash on her), they have wifi and she can do homework while waiting!

Good for you. He's got nerve doing anything other than kissing your feet for helping with this ridiculous arrangement.

that's pathetic.

Boredom is GOOD for kids. It forces them to self entertain, use their imaginations, and learn that the world doesn't revolve around them. Be just a smidge uncomfortable already! That helps them learn to be resourceful and self-reliant.

If your H is so worried about baby girl waiting longer than 10 seconds, HE can go get her.

This is how these kids turn out to be precious, enabled, clueless adults....
