MY car? ......LOLOLOLOL....

So DH announced at dinner last night that YSD16.5 passed her driver's test.

Me:  Great!  So you can drive now!

YSD: Well...(shrug)....not really.

Turns out it was the driving school's driver test, not any of the real test, written or driven

Me:  Oh, well, then you didn't pass the driving test you passed the class. That's good. When do you apply for your license. SHRUG and mutter.

Me: What?  I couldn't understand a word you...

DH:  She SAID blah blah blah...

Me: Excuse me, I was talking with YSD. Do you prefer me not to speak with HER?  (I then repeat the question).

YSD: I have to wait 6 months from when I signed up for the learners permit.

Me: So when is that then?

YSD:  SHRUG

DH:  Well you are getting practice in aren't you? Lots of practice with different cars, mine, your moms...

YSD: and the class car...

DH:  You haven't driven Cover's car yet!

Me:  BLANK STARE IN DISBELIEF AT DH BECUASE WE HAVE DISCUSSED THIS ALREADY.

Subject dropped

So now I have to remind DH that my car is off limits: 1. I have zero say in any of this  2. YSD clearly doesn't care about driving in the first place 3. SHE has never asked to drive it or to drive with me 4. If anything happens while she's driving it I'm NOT going to interact with BM for the insurance information FFS. (I think she won't qualify to take the state test until sometime in September if I work backwards - so all summer she cannot drive)

I don't know that I would've been able to keep myself from laughing out loud at his remark. Selective memory...

So - SD16 is in an online drivers class to get her permit. I thought as soon as you get your permit its about a year of driving until qualifying for drivers test to get license?

All states are different. Here you can get your license 6 months after your permit. There are "laws" though that the driver to be by themselves for a year, can only drive siblings after x months, I already forgot some of the other ones.

The boys driving school set up the state test for them. It was on us for permit test. DMV for that.

She just finished class this weekend. Now it's a six month practice period with so many hours of driving logged with parent or other adult. If she decides to get it in the first place.

In CA once they finish the class they can take the permit exam.  Once they pass the exam, then they have to have a behind the wheel with an instructor before they can drive with a parent or adult.  They will need two more behind the wheels before they can take their drivers test, which they can only take after having their permit for six months and turning 16.

One of my SSs just failed the written test. The one who passed was supposed to take the driving test this week, but apparently BM was sick, so didn't take him. God forbid he tell DH he needs a ride...DH would have gladly taken him, but didn't know he skipped it until he asked him about the test this weekend. DH has been asking them both about it for weeks, but barely gets any details.
