Have to say...

...I'm typing with one hand today because I'm having a Cheeto emergency. In that I can't seem to shovel them in fast enough. Anybody else? Ah, hormones.

SD15 and BM started making noises yesterday about her staying at her mom's for the weekend so they could see a movie together. DH said is her homework done? Then the waffling and the whining started. He held firm. This whole thing takes place over a few hours with the texting, etc.

By the time BM showed up, she had to launch the "I'm in poverty now" parade. Yeah, it's dh's fault you piss away every dime from the Brinks truck he unloads into your life. Not. Somehow she must have thought she would guilt him into something but he's had too much sanity now for 2 years for him to fall for it anymore. **Cheshire cat smile**

SD15 finally figured out a good way to get what she wants is to just do the damn homework. Finally. So, blissfully, she's now gone. Arrived Friday night, gone Sat morning. A happy holiday weekend is now underway for SS13, DH, and me. Hark the herald, yes, sweet angels singing 'round here, pear trees, lords a-leaping, and good king Wenceslaus, too.

Do it, lady! It is its own special satisfaction that can not be matched. It simply must be done once a year or two. Do. It. I'm a wicked, wicked girl.

My poison of choice are the bitter dark ( preferably aerated) European chocolates... mmmm....
they are a must! The ratio is 3 per skid, 5 per kid Smile

I cannot help but sympathize with your DH, aka the bad cop when it comes to home work.
What is it with the other parent's lack-a-daisical'ity? In my life it is me, and my ex is the What Movies Would You Like to See This Weekend kinda guy. My 17yo is taking the ACT next Saturday, but this Saturday it is the good times rolling at good ole dad's house.

Oh and by the way, my all time favorite carol is Good King Wenceslas! No one even plays it anymore... but it's a classic!

ChiefGrownup's picture

Good king Wenceslaus is also my favorite! It represents all that is good and peaceful. Just like this weekend starting Saturday morning. Purrrrrrr.......

Cannot explain the BM. She lives in a fantasy world. Her biggest goal in life is to prove to DH that she's not to blame. That's it. Doesn't matter what it is, she's not to blame. Even better if she can blame him some how.

Dark, bitter European chocolates.....you are obviously a very good person with superior intellect and character!

Pilgrim Soul's picture

Yeah, that's me in a nutshell Smile
That's exactly how i prefer to think about myself! And chocolates help with that too - A LOT.

As for BM - my mother is exactly like that. When she was younger, or now in her 70s - nothing is ever her fault or her responsibility. I Am Not To Blame could be her credo. She is ( unconsiously) a victim all of the time. It gets old. I think she is defending against anxiety that will swalloe her whole bc if she were to admit that she had a hand in causing her problems, not just stood idly by as they were unfolding, she will not be able to deal.

The BM in your life has a kid with autism - and that is a huge responisibilty and a life-changing factor. Does she feel that others blame her for his issues? Does she feel guilty that she is not doing enough? She probably does.

Not to hijack your innocent food blog... these are considerations for another day.

Actually, it's the best thing that ever happened to her. It's her Permanent Excuse For Everything. Dh says when they had gone to marriage counseling he'd list his frustrations and point of view then when it was time for her to talk she'd say, "Well, SSthen6 is autistic...." She has become permanently excused from trying to be a real adult. Furthermore, she is convinced she does everything for him and DH does nothing though I personally have been present when the entire school staff was trying to get through to her that she needs to lift at least one little finger for the kid during the week and, oh, I could go on and on.

You are a kind soul and naturally want to think the best of her at least the most normal of her but there you have it. She doesn't merit your lovely empathy because it's really not how she operates. I've never met anyone like her and wish I still hadn't.

Much more pleasant to contemplate European chocolate, Cheetos, and that fabulous Wenceslaus!

Usually this stuff doesn't make it into my house, either. But there are those occasions where, well, it's just an emergency. }:)

And congrats on the real coffee and food! Sorry about the sinuses, that is so unpleasant. Yay, victory over the creepy crawlies!

I do not buy or eat much junk foods but when I really need a fix, omg its the crispy cheetos ! Not the fluffy ones! Reese's cups are good too. Milkshakes! Chocolate with banana is the best. Clotted cream, Belgium Waffles, Poutine! I could eat Poutine for years! Every kind of cheese you can think of with crackers and breads! Prawn chips, curly balls, Cadbury Flake bars, donuts and hot pretzels. Root beer is good with a corn dog for a terrible but good lunch. Banana Splits make me happy too. I try to never think about these things, maybe that is why I have had a stick up my ass for the past two years or so?? Probably! Maybe I will eat crap all day and see if I can be less of a bitch! Worth a try for sure.

ChiefGrownup's picture

Oh, yes, the crispy crunchy ones, not the air fluff barely-there ones, oh, my yes. I gave very specific instructions to my DH, he might have been locked out of the house had he come home with the wrong ones, he knew it was a very serious mission!

You have a lot of great ideas there, I may have to try one or two the next time this emergency comes upon me!

If it weren't for a stupid allergy to milk, I would go for this cauliflower thing. Do post the recipe. And pics. I shall enjoy vicariously.

Plus your recipe for a road trip is awesome. Showed it to my dh, he gave a happy giggle!

Notasm: just admit that you are really Ina Garten, and you are typing this barefoot in your garden in London, teasing us with your vegetable delights! If you are, you have my vote: i think you found the right antidote to the toxicity of step-life: vegetable medleys!

I am a big fan of cauliflower also, and Brussel sprouts, and broccoli, and the link above looks very promising! Thanks for sharing.

OOOOh Slim Jims! Have not had one in years! Post your au grautin recipe please! I may make it for myself one day.

ChiefGrownup's picture

Can't say Slim Jims work for me. But your mentioning them has opened up a whole new world of things you can do with cigarette lighters to me! And I do heartily endorse the evilness of this section of the Junk Food Chain!

StepLady's picture

Have you ever burned one with a cigarette lighter and ate it? I saw a horrible woman on tv doing that! I would think it would be toxic due to the fuel, this woman said she does it all the time? Why?? What is the thrill in that? Slim Jims is what I referencing.

StepLady's picture

I dont know! I dont know google it I guess. It was gross to see and I imagine it smelled gross too. I thought it was no good to use cig lighters to cook things on have them light up for too long near you.

StepLady's picture

If you like disgusting but delicious foods you have to go eat some Poutine then tell me what you think. Its def disgusting looking and a bit weird to most that have not tried it, but it is magnificent! I haven't had it in years! But I would love to eat it daily if it was zero calories.

ChiefGrownup's picture

My DH tried poutine a few months ago but the curds weren't melted, I think that must be why we didn't "get it." Now we know. Great tip!

Hahaha!
