OT- Surgical Biopsy Complete

Hi Everyone, I hope you're doing well. Just wanted to give you all an update. As you may recall from my previous blogs, I'm BRCA-1 and my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer at 38. I've been getting checked every 6 months since I was 25. 6 months ago they found something and I had a biopsy, which was negative. When I went for my 6 month follow up they found more and it was a bigger area of concern, so they opted for a surgical biopsy where they go in and remove all of the tissue in the area. It's been about 2 months since the original scan since it took time to get a pre surgery appointment and then schedule the surgery.

The surgery was this morning and went well. All in from arrival time to waiting to prep to surgery I was at the hospital for about 5 hours. I was pretty good spirit-wise until I actually laid down on the operating table, then I started to cry. Thankfully they knocked me out quickly. I woke up just as they were finishing the surgery (which also freaked me out a little) but they said it was ok. Everything went well and now I have to wait for the biopsy results from pathology, which they expect in about a week. I have a post-surgery appointment August 8th where they will make sure everything is healing well.

I'm home resting and DH is doing everything. We have SS7 and SS6 so that will be a challenge. They stayed with my parents last night and my dad is dropping them off soon. DH will take care of everything with him, the hardest thing will be getting them to remember they can't jump on my, wrestle with me, etc. We are also supposed to take them to Sesame Place Friday (Sesame Street themed water park) but my surgeon doesn't want me to get the incision sight wet which will be impossible on water slides, so I guess I will have to sit out

Of course the future topic came up before surgery. They were shocked I didn't have kids yet (even though I just turned 30 a month ago). They were asking when I was considering having the mastectomy and hysterectomy. In just not ready. I want to have a child of my own but can't until DH finds a job. I hate my stupid genes, I hate having to even think about it. I have the worst type of gene that basically makes the breast cancer I will get super aggressive , so they would prefer I have the surgery and nearly eliminate my chances.

That's all for now.

While I'm not advocating for having a child before you're ready to support it-if you wait until you're financially "ready" to have a baby you'll wait forever. It's a fine tightrope you're walking my love. Sometimes we can only live in the moment. And once you have a baby-you figure out how to squeeze money out of a rock. I'll keep you in my prayers <3

As we have it now, my income covers basically all of our bills with JUST enough leftover to spare for groceries. No $ for diapers, etc. A large bank just posted a new job they want DH for (head recruiter at the bank contacted him throughout the approval process to keep him warm, and told him to apply the day it was posted). If that comes through, we will definitely try.

If not, not sure what we will do. If it turns out I do have cancer, then I REALLY don't know what we will do....

Could you just do the mastectomy? I woman I used to work with was 35 and just did that. She had implants done in the same surgery.

I technically could, but they want me to also have the hysterectomy because of my MUCH higher increased chances of ovarian cancer, which is basically undetectable until it is too late. If I am going to have a super invasive surgery, I would rather do it once than twice
