Follow up on BM taking skids on emergency medical calls with her

Catlover's picture

Three times in the past year BM and her fiance have taken the skids (11 and 9) on to accident scenes (they are volunteer firefighters). DH has repeatedly told her that is unacceptable. Yesterday SD told us that BM's Fiance had left her at the firehouse (alone and unsupervised) while he ran out on an emergency call. Keep in mind this is not their paying jobs (they are also emts), rather a volunteer position, and they don't HAVE to leave on these "calls". DH went to the firestation this morning and spoke to the fire chief. He was very nice, but essentially told him this needs to stop. Children do NOT belong on the scene of accidents nor unsupervised at a fire station. The fire chief agreed and told DH that he would be talking to both BM and her fiance today about it, and going forward this would not happen again.

Of course, now DH and I are just holding our breath, waiting for the fallout from this. Since we are already in the middle of litigation over the placement schedule, I can only imagine the issues that will come up. BM is a total victim drama queen, who once tried accusing DH of being abusive (because he showed up unnanouced to her EMT job during the time that she was having an affair w/ her partner). I can see her going off on this one. Oh well....he and I both decided the most important thing was protecting the skids and to hell with her.

was a ff for 20+ yrs before he retired. An accident scene is NO place for a child...EVER. DH was a volunteer as well and would never have taken the kids with him.....it wasn't allowed anyway. There were times when he would have the kids and tell me to come the the firehouse to pick them up before he left, but never left them there alone. I understand the need for adrenaline rush, but geez.....that's too much! Some of the things you see at an accident site are not for young eyes. I still see many things from accidents I have worked over the years in my head. I am an adult and it sometimes gets to me, so I don't think children should ever be around that!

I mean really, what kind of parent will take their child to a emergancy situation? What if one of the kids sees a puppy going into the burning building (okay, probably not going to happen) and decideds to go save the puppy?

That's ridiculous.
