Has anyone heard of this?

So when SD12 was here on the weekend she was sick (as usual). DH sent her to bed around 8pm but before she went to her bedroom she asked for a bowl of water. I was thinking, is she really that thirsty? LOL. DH said that she wasn't taking a bowl of water to her room because of the flooring and spilt water would ruin it. He asked why she wanted to do that and SD said that at BMs house if they are sick she fills a bowl of water and puts it in the middle of the room as it "cleans the air". WTF?? She was serious and DH said "that is bullsh1t, it doesn't work and we are not doing that here." I do have a vaporizer but it was in the babies room as she has a stuffy nose.
Has anyone ever hear of that, is it something from the 1800's? I did think that BM was not very bright but that just seems strange to me. I did google it but I got no results.

Maybe BM does this as a "mind trick" type thing. You know...maybe the kid "thinks" it's a cure so it works/helps. Kinda like treating something with a placebo and the person feels better even though they really didn't get any medication. Who knows....

I have heard of putting a bowl of water near the heat vent to humidify a room during the winter. I didn't know it could clean the air too, lol.

I googled it too....same result.

OK....first of all we have to consider the source....another fine graduate of the BM's school of stupidity.

I have a question. Since a bowl of water cleansd the air in a room. It is safe to assume thay water has air clean properties....right? OK....so approx 70% of the earth's surface is water. Here is the question: If water has air cleaning properties and 70% of the earth's surface is covered by this air cleaning agent....WHY is air quality and air pollution an issue?

Sometimes BMs just don't make sense. SD told me that BM said that she couldn't have a cappuccino because of the caffeine but BM didn't have an issue with SD drinking 3-4 energy drinks every day!!!!

We deal with this too with XW#2. When SS8 is with us, we almost always stop at least once so DH can get some beer and invites SS with him. DH told me that SS stares at the soda case because he's trying to find something with no caffeine (because that's what BM says - no caffeine). Okay, that's fine, but I guess BM forgets about the caffeine in iced tea, chocolate, etc. WTF BM? I think 8 year old boys should have other things to deal with than worrying if the soda he wants to drink has caffeine in it or not! Ugh!

Actually I have to disagree. Caffeine is addictive, can stunt growth and cause a host of problems in adults and especially young children.

From the sugars to attention in school, to hyperactivity to moodswings, to problems sleeping-the longer a kid stays away from it the better, so in that sense I have to say kuddos to a mom or anyone that has even taught their kids to stay away from caffeine.

There's not much an 8yr old has to "deal with"-and teachign him to make health concious decision isn't a "wtf" thing it's a smart thing.

My 9yr old still doesn't have it. My 11yr old loves the stuff that he originally tried at dads Wink but only on rare ocassion do i allow it at my house.

They don't drink iced tea though-and chocolate is had on rare ocassion.

hahahaha....well i guess i've been doing it wrong all these years!! i've been spending all this money on medicine when i'm sick and all i had to do was fill up a bowl of water! lol.....wow!

I was wondering if she might have done it to simply make sd stop crying about being sick and I did say to DH that it sure sounded like a placebo to me.
Fruitcake is probably the closer reason though. I'm betting that DH will get a nasty email about how he won't look after his "first daughter" by letting her put a bowl of water on her floor, LOL.

OMG.....I sat a bowl of water by me and lost 15 pounds and I was eating chocolate mousse alll day!!!!!!!!!!!!!
