Youngest SS7/hearing imparied

just_tired's picture

My youngest SS7 is hearing impaired he was born at 26 weeks and had a few other issues at birth, but the main one that still effects him today is the hearing, he has to wear hearing aids. When BM had custody of the kids SS7 hardly ever wore his aids, hell most of the time they were lost or broken. With that been said, last night during his phone call with BM he told her he didn't like his aids anymore and didn't want to wear them, she did to my surprise tell him that he needs to wear them so he can hear better. I just thought it was funny coming from her.

What's really sad is that he is so far behind because of the poor choices BM made when she had custody of him. She only had him in preschool and with Easter Seals for maybe 2 months when I first met them and he would have been 4 then. He had no other help with learning anything until he went into kindergarten (which he did twice), now he is in 1st grade and can't read a lick and doesn't really know all the sounds the letters make. In the state and school district my DH and I live in we have found out about a program for deaf and hearing impaired children and we go Friday to learn more about it. Hopefully we have found the answer for SS7, he deserve an amazing chance at life.

Thank God we have the kids now, because who knows where they would need up when they get older....oh wait I know probably jail like their BM.

I know right, but he now has his aids and wears them everyday. The program we will probably send him to will also teach him some sign language to help him when he can't say things vocally. She will never get these kids back as long as I live, no matter how stressful and hard it is. She currently doesn't even see them because she has no one to do her supervised visits. Last time she saw them was Sept 21st and before that was in July. I am ready for her to completely gone.

yes he and his siblings live with us now and only have supervised visitation with BM, and only person she has that will supervise for free is her mom and her mother lives 6 to 7 hrs away. So basically she doesn't see her children.
