After reading a cople of blogs where BMs have stunted or are in the process of stunting the intellect of their children, I was reminded of this extreme case that came out a few years ago.

I just watched Mommy Dead and Dearest. It was very interesting.
I'm amazed at how easily this mother got Drs to agree to her diagnoses. Not so amazed at how easily she got Dad out of the picture and saddened at what this child went through.

I don't think I'd trust this girl though. Too many years of learning manipulation at her mothers knee. It's just sad all the way around.

Right, like how do they flip the switch. That poor girl does not know what normal is in the slightest.

MSD has learned quite a few manipulation tactics over the years and she uses them against BM now. It's almost scary to watch. I would rather have MSD not be manipulative at all but she's watched BM do it her whole life. I wonder is MSD ever feels bad about it. I've never seen her manipulate anyone else since she escaped from BM, but then again, I don't see her often.

When DH and I first started dating, I was concerned that BM was going to be one of those mothers. She gave SD an OTC medication that she knew SD was allergic to and knew that it would give her seizures. It was an attempt to get DH to come back to her (she had given HIM the boot, but...). She stood in the hospital, screaming at DH that it wouldn't have happened if he had come back to her. Swore that she would hurt herself, too, if he didn't.

Luckily, she never did anything like that again, at least to our knowledge. She has made SD very dependent on her, though.

Some of these women have serious issues.

I watched that documentary and it's pretty clear that Gypsy was emotionally and physically abused by her mother for her entire life. She should have been sent to a psychiatric facility where maybe there would have been some hope for her to work through what was done to her. I don't think she deserved to go to prison. She had zero concept of the real world.
